Kurt's suicide and last words

The Kurt Cobain suicide note was found near Kurt's body in the greenhouse of his Seattle home on Friday, April 8, 1994, at the same time his body was discovered.

Kurt had carefully positioned the note so that it could be easily found by staking it through the center with a pen, and fixing it to the top of a pile of potting soil.

The Kurt Cobain suicide note tells us a lot about bipolar suicides in general. It also sheds light on Kurt's manic depression.

It is a chilling example of multiple acute bipolar suicide risk factors, with almost no preventative factors present.

Was Kurt Bipolar?
Years after his death, thousands of people continue searching for information on Kurt Cobain and manic depression. What is it they are really looking for?

Kay Redfield Jamison, Professor of Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and leading US expert on bipolar, selected Kurt as the poster boy for a 2004 study of manic depression and creativity.

Does manic depression explain Kurt's suicide?
Bipolar Suicides
Most suicides can be prevented. The statistics on bipolar suicides are very distressing so I want to give you the good news up front. This page does not make for cheerful reading so please keep in mind two things:
- dramatic reductions, both for attempts and completions, is one of the most striking impacts of lithium and other effective mood stabilzers

- interventions do work and there is nothing inevitable about bipolar suicide, even in the most depressed or at risk individual.
Kurt Cobain's mysterious stomach ailment linked to mental health
A new clinical study will explore the brain-gut interaction in patients with functional dyspepsia and whether certain drugs can effectively relieve symptoms of this disorder.

This disorder gives rise to the burning, nauseous stomach aches that plagued Kurt Cobain.

The success of the anti-depressants amitriptyline and escitalopram in early trials is part of growing evidence of a brain-gut link, and a significant nexus between mood disorders and previously not considered physical symptoms.
