Kurta
A Kurta is a loose shirt ending at the knee and is considered to be a unisex garment.
It can be worn with salwar pants, churidar pants, trousers, Jeans or a tight-fitting salwar.
Kurtas are used in both formal and casual atire.
In western countries women often wear imported kurtas as blouses with jeans. Kurtas are sometines much lighter and shorter than the traditional knee length garments
Imported kurtas were popular fashion items in the sixties and seventies being part of hippie culture.
Kurtas became less popular with the demise of hippie culture, but recently have become more popular, with the increase in the Indian ex patriot community living in the west.
This shorter lighter version of the Kurta has even been exported back to India where it is worn by many women.
