Tomb KV65 in the Valley of the Kings
Ranked #6,573 in Arts & Design, #109,697 overall
In December 2008 Dr Zahi Hawass, Egypt's most senior archaeologist and head of the Supreme Council for Antiquities announced in a lecture he gave in California that two new tombs had been found an in the Valley of the Kings and would be opened within a month. These tombs would become KV64 and KV65. There is no doubting what he said as the lecture as videoed (see below).
Since December 2008 ... silence.
In March 2009, Dr Hawass announced that he is "looking for KV64 and dropped hints that it could be the tomb of Nefertiti. Indeed, it is widely believed that a tomb (KV64) has indeed been found and opened. But no further mention of KV65. Indeed, even KV64 has slipped from the news.
That doesn't mean he hadn't found tombs in December (although it is possible he was premature in his announcement) as there was a long delay between the discover of KV63 in 2005 and it's announcement to the press in 2006.
