Kwanzaa Coloring and Activity Pages for Children
Kwanzaa is a Pan-African holiday celebrated for 7 days each year from December 26 through January 1. The name Kwanzaa comes from the Swahili phrase matunda ya kwanza - which means "first fruits of the harvest." Kwanzaa symbols incorporate the bounty of the harvest in a 7-day celebration focused on family, community and African culture.
The Kwanzaa holiday was created to teach about and share the seven basic values of African culture associated with building and reinforcing family, community and culture. During Kwanzaa, families light a single candle each day to represent one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa until on the final day all seven candles in the kinara are lit. Each day families celebrate a different Kwanzaa principle.
