The South East Coast Strategic Health Authority are in serious financial trouble. The government have said they must deliver savings of around £100 million from the annual NHS budget for the area and that means spending less money on hospital services. They have fixed their sights on Worthing and Southlands Hospitals and it seems likely that they will propose cuts to services like accident and emergency perhaps sooner rather than later.
We, as your local members of parliament, have set up a website (http://www.kwash.org.uk) in a bid to fight the cuts, give the people of Worthing the chance to make their views heard, and put pressure on the authorities to think again.
We hope that you will join us in this battle, it may have to be the biggest Worthing has seen for quite some time. Please use this site as a tool to both do your bit to help and to keep up to date with what is happening. It will be regularly updated so watch this space.

KWASH - What can I do to help?
Keep Worthing and Southlands Hospitals
This is not a party political campaign, it is a campaign for the people we represent and what is right so please join us no matter where your personal political loyalties lie.
Liberal Democrat opposition leader of Worthing Council, Cllr Bob Smytherman says: "The Liberal Democrats are in total agreement with the campaign to save Worthing Hospital from closure or downgrading and were delighted to second the motion to Council giving our full support. This is the one issue that will unite all residents from all political persuasions and none and it is essential ALL elected politicians in Worthing unite with the residents to show the PCT and SHA and the Labour Government that Worthing mean business!"
Peter Berry, chairman of the East Worthing and Shoreham Labour Party says: "The rumours that our local hospital services could, in the future, be provided by either Chichester or Brighton is most alarming and we support the call from the populace at large to support our local MPs in their search for the truth and a sensible solution to any trouble that our much valued Worthing Hospital may be in.
"Our hospital and it's dedicated staff have been so successful in satisfying the calls made upon that that they are now condemned for their success. The NHS is free at the point of demand, and the hospital has little control over the calls made upon it, not forgetting the advances in the whole field of medicine over the last few years.
"How many of us have family or friends who have had their quality of life improved by the restoration of sight, renewal if joints, all made possible by our local hospital, for example? There has been too much capital investment in our local hospital for it to be wasted.
"Any talk of closure would make the services we currently enjoy far too distant, especially for the elderly who make up much of our local population."
