So here is one picture just BEFORE the puppies arrived of Josie, waiting anxiously, panting in the whelping box. Josie's puppies came about 5 days ahead of schedule, so the puppy (whelping) box had actually JUST been completed and moved into place when her water broke about 1 AM. The first puppy arrived around 6 AM. The picture below is late in the morning when most, but not all of the puppies have arrived. Josie is catching a recovery nap.

Around two weeks old the puppies started to sit up

And Josie was more likely to leave the box for longer intervals. But it was always really clear that the puppies LOVED their Mama and she loved them too. Here one little yellow puppy says hello to Mom while her brothers and sisters finish their meal.

Puppies Out and About

When the puppies could walk better, we took them all out of the box. Initially we had them in our tile entryway on an old piece of carpet. This made cleanups easy. This is also where we would feed them their first meals. We had them eating separately at first to check how much food each puppy ate.

It was a very bittersweet to sell these puppies who we had come to love. But we knew they were ready for families to dote on each of them individually AND we could see that we couldn't housebreak or care for eight puppies properly. We had to decide which puppy to keep and then find good and loving homes for each of them. Here is are some of the pictures that I put in the classified ad.



We have heard from almost all the new owners since about what wonderful dogs these are and so that is where I will end my story.

Proud Owner #1 Sends A Labrador Retriever Puppy Picture

The new owners of our puppies were so pleased and proud of the puppies, that several sent me pictures. I think they also sensed how much we adored the puppies and how hard it was to give them up and so we really liked to see them in their new homes, well-loved and adorable as ever. This picture is of the lightest-colored puppy when he was 2 - 3 months old.
