Labrador Retriever Training - Building A Relationship

Ranked #10,458 in Pets & Animals, #270,014 overall

Why Labrador Retriever Training Is Important

Doing your labrador retriever training is very important, for you and your dog. In order for you and your dog to have a loving relationship, you cant have him/her peeing on the carpet, and running amok around the house or backyard.

It is also important to use proper technique while training your friend, which is why I have provided some tips and techniques for you to practice with.

Labrador Retriever Training - Proper Technique

Sit, Stay, Fetch is the most popular dog training guide, and the ONLY one I use while labrador retriever training.

Know Yourself Before You Start Your Labrador Retriever Training

Many trainers/dog owners make this mistake during the course of their labrador retriever training.

What Do You Mean Know Yourself First?

Many people do not realize how badly this mistake can be to your labrador retriever training. It will not only confuse your dog, but it will cause him/her frustration, as well as you too. So what am I talking about?

Knowing the rules you want the dog to follow!

You would be suprised how many times I see owners change up the rules of the house suddenly, confusing their little friend. If you set rules, and allow your dog to do something for years, and then suddenly tell him NO, or try to train him out of it, it will take a while. Breaking bad habits are easier than creating new good habits.

Changing up the command while you are doing your labrador retriever training is also a good way to make sure your pet doesnt want to be trained. Pick a command, and stick with it. Do not teach your dog to sit when you say "sit" and then try to teach him to sit on the command "down". This can be confusing, and is a good way to erase all the progress that was made.

Using Proper Labrador Retriever Training Techniques

I believe the the dog owner/trainer should also be trained. Proper knowledge can not only make the training fun

Before jumping in and training your dog, it is best to know the proper technique, and how to discipline a dog whos not listening. Most dog owners who have no prior experience find it hard, and wonder what they are doing wrong. Those are most of the people who come to me and ask me what is going on.

What they dont realize is that without proper knowledge, its hard to see that they are raising their voice to the dog, which just makes the training take longer. They also dont know the proper way to discipline a dog, which is VERY important.

While doing your labrador retriever training, it is important to know that hitting, yelling, and screaming at your dog does absolutely NO good at all. It actually just makes things worse, because your dog will no longer be interested in being trained, just to keep getting yelled at.

This is why I recommend ALL dog owners to read the Sit, Stay, Fetch - Dog Training Guide. It is by far the most informational dog training manual, and the same one that I used to become a professional dog trainer.

Labrador Retriever Training Requires Patience - Heres Why!

Most people do not do this on purpose, but they being to get frustrated, making the tone in their voice change. Labrador retriever training relies on cues your dog can remember, so stop confusing him!

Getting frustrated, and yelling at the dog, or even just slightly raising your voice, can confuse the dog, thus increasing frustration even more for you. It is very important to stay calm and have patience with your dog. Just remember, they WILL learn. Work hard in the beginning, and do it right, and you wont have to worry about it later down the road.

Dog training, specifically labrador retriever training, relies on commands, backed with voice tones. Usually, while calling a dog you would use a happy tone. When saying sit, stay, etc. you would also use a happy tone, only more of a stern voice would be applied. Dogs then pick up and remember these tones, and remember it for future training. They will learn that a stern "no" means to stop doing it because it is wrong.

Stick with it, and BE CONSISTENT, be sure not to change up your tone or your attitude. Remember, it should be FUN!
