Ladies' Ultra-Uber-Cool Grunge, Goth, & Glamour Boots

Ranked #9,475 in Fashion & Beauty, #148,566 overall

I don't own enough pairs of boots...

I love boots. Ever since I saw the movie Underworld I have coveted a pair of serious @#$%kicking chunky-heeled skin-tight thigh-high boots like the pair worn by Kate Beckinsale's Lycan-hunting vampire. (Come to think of it, make that Trinity from The Matrix. Yes, we'll blame the beautiful Carrie-Anne.)

Not long after Underworld I bought my first pair of Doc Martens, but my ultimate goal is a chunky high-heeled boot - I have my eye on either the Slush 225, the Harley-Davidson Temptation, or the Doc Martens C320.

What do you like?

Not everyone loves chunky platform thigh-high boots (how could you not??!!) - so there's something here for everyone who loves a little glamour.

... but I can dream!

I'm embarrassed to admit that I own only two pairs of cool boots - my Docs (those are mine pictured in the intro) and a cheaper pair of mid-calf boots with a fairly decent platform heel on them. I own a pair of gorgeous shoes that have so much attitude they think they're boots (in other words, wear them under jeans and they look like boots). I love those shoes more than my Docs. (Ooh, did I just admit that in public?)

I also own the cheapest pair of Ugg boots I could find and I hate them. But one winter I was so cold I needed them, so they hang out in the back of my cupboard and my comfy and very warm pair of hiking socks jeer at them because I'd rather walk around in socks than Ugg boots. I dream about owning a specific pair of Ugg boots that actually look quite cool - but then I remember my pair at the back of my cupboard and think "Nuh... I'll save up for the Harleys instead."

So, you can help me finance my dream of owning more than two pairs of sort-of cool boots (and at least one pair of ultra-hot boots) by buying your own boots through this lens - we both get something: isn't that a cool idea? And then I can come back here and show off my new boots and you can drool.

Okay, I'm teasing - I'd rather you went off to Kiva.org and loaned one of those enthusiastic but disadvantaged entrepreneurs some money first - then you can come back here and not feel guilty.

Come on in and dream a bit with me, anyway.

These are the looks that started my obsession...

The shoes with attitude

These are Them (with a Capital T). The shoes that think they're boots. Aren't they great? (I can pretend at least!)

Did you know that you can cheat and make a pair of shoes look like boots? If you have a great pair of closed shoes, see the instructions on my Pirate Costumes lens for making "boot gaiters" (or extensions).

Thigh high boot tops from Costume Craze If you have a sturdy sewing machine and use a thin faux leather fabric, you could even make gaiters that you could wear "out-of-costume" - ie, convincing enough to pass public scrutiny.

(Pictured left) Costume Craze sell these thigh high vinyl boot toppers for $15.99 - a cheap way to get a sexy boot look.

Chunky platform high heel boots

I think I'm in love...

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! Look what I found! That's exactly what I was looking for. Look at those plats, look at those heels, look at all those shiny, shiny buckles!

(See I knew I had to do a lens on boots for a reason.)

Doc Martens

The Doc Martens style boot was invented by german doctor Klaus Martens in 1945, after an ankle injury made it uncomfortable for him to wear standard army boots. He designed a pair of boots using softer leather and "air cushioned" soles.

Women were Doctor Martens' first customers, and today Docs remain just as popular with girls who know what they "goth".

Grab a Doc bargain on eBay

Save money on second-hand, or even on un-used, Doc Martens. Keep an eye out, because Docs "made in England" may become collector's items. Doc Martens pulled out of the UK in 2003 and switched their operations to China. It's still early days, but grab these UK-made boots while you can!

Harley-Davidson

Harley-Davidson have a wide range of clothing, boots, and shoes for both men and women. I think they would have us believe that these items are for wearing while riding a Harley - both some of their stuff is just too cool to wear with a helmet...

Pointy toes look a little daintier and more ladylike.

Dainty flats

Flat shoes and boots make me feel like I'm walking uphill. But that's just me. I know many people who prefer flats to heels, and you're probably more sensible than me.

Great lens. I love chunky platforms because I think it is easier to walk. You're after my own heart and a new favorite.

I grok exactly what you are talking about! I own a pair of Smegg boots, made in London. They are 6" stack heels, platform soles, with knee-high, buckling shin guards. My ex called them my Klingon boots. They rock!
