Lady Gaga New Album - The Princess of Pop

Lady Gaga's new album, in fact only her third studio album (Born This Way) has topped the charts in a similar manner to her previous two albums - The Fame, her first studio album released in 2008 and The Fame Monster which was released the following year in 2009. Each of her previous albums included some monster hits of course and her newest album is definitely no exception; in fact the title track Born This Way has been the fastest selling single of all time on iTunes with one million copies sold in just five days and has topped the charts in more than 10 countries worldwide.

Of course part of the popularity of her music is Lady Gaga's use of social media - as the first person with more than 10 million followers on Twitter and the first artist to have over a billion views on YouTube, she is nothing if not a social media maven. Her followers are rabid fans of the pop princess and have helped drive her sales and popularity through the roof - in fact Amazon in a recent promotion to help launch their cloud music locker service offered Lady Gaga's new album for digital download for 99 cents.

While many big box retailers have offered discounted prices on new products as loss leaders, simply to get people in the door, Amazon with it is 99 cent offer has taken this to a new extreme - especially considering that for this almost free price you get the full album - all fourteen tracks and a digital booklet which is in stark contrast to the iTunes price of $11.99 for the same album. Unfortunately for Amazon however, the popularity of this download was so great that the servers stalled and thousands of fans were left waiting for hours before they were finally able to receive their digital album!

Lady Gaga has however taken social media in brand new directions to other celebrities - some of her songs were released on Facebook's Farmville ahead of the launch of her album and the album itself was leaked to the general public as part of a promotion with the free London based newspaper - The Metro - in the UK. However, while the album might have been leaked and some of the songs given away, it has not in any way impacted the popularity of her new album. In fact Lady Gaga is presently planning her next world tour and if her past concerts have been any indication, they are going to be sold out affairs.

While Lady Gaga's musical abilities are undisputable, another thing that makes Lady Gaga stand out from the crowd is her sense of fashion. From meat dresses to bubble dresses, her style is truly iconic and unique in a very crowded market. In fact the meat dress that Lady Gaga wore at MTV's music awards in the fall of 2010, has already been immortalized as part of a new exhibit - Women Who Rock - in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
