The video shows Gaga in a black leather ensemble seductively dancing with male background dancers dressed in police uniform. MTV and VH1 agreed to air the edited version of the music video to avoid censorship issues.

The Lady Gaga Paparazzi video was helmed by critically-acclaimed Swedish director Jonas Akerlund who is famous for directing music videos for artists such as Madonna, U2 and Moby. Gaga remarked in an interview with The Canadian Press that "Paparazzi" is one of the most creative videos she has ever done. The eight-minute music video features Gaga taking revenge against her boyfriend for humiliating her in front of photographers. Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgard of "True Blood" fame played the role as Gaga's abusive partner. The Rolling Stone magazine labeled the video a tribute to Alfred Hitchcock's legendary film "Vertigo" in the 1950s.
