i don't tink there is a problem with men or women getting tattoos. I am a woman in getting one because of my younger brother. If it's something with meaning and heart and you don't mind having it on your body then go for it! If you love it, it honestly doesn't matter what others think.

But, if appropriate precautions are taken when considering a tattoo design, whether it's a ladybug tattoo or not, the pain to your body - and wallet - can be minimized.

- Check out the tattoo parlor to make sure it's clean/sanitary. It goes without saying that you don't want to pick up illness from a dirty needle!
- Ask to see the intended artist's work before getting it done to make sure they're capable of doing the design you want to your satisfaction. A more complicated design will need a more experienced tattoo artist.
- In most states, children under 18 are NOT allowed in the tattoo parlor. Arrange for a babysitter if you need to.
- Yes, it hurts (especially on feet!) Yes, you DO need to take care of your new tattoo according to the tattoo parlor's instructions. If you don't, you'll end up scarring, and your design will be messed up.
- Although there IS pain involved, it's not bad enough that you have to take time off work, etc. (Pretty sure your boss wouldn't go for that, anyway! Just sayin'...) Usually, not even a pain reliever is necessary, unless your pain tolerance is pretty low.
