Ladyfinger No Bake Cake Recipe for People in a Hurry

We love ladyfinger cakes for girly parties like baby showers or teas. They look elegant, taste great and are super easy to make, especially if you use a recipe like the one we make, which uses pre-made ladyfingers, instant chocolate pudding that we make ahead of time and chill and a tub of whipped cream. We get a glass bowl, line it with ladyfinger halves, put a layer of chocolate pudding in, add a layer of whipped cream, add a layer of ladyfingers, a layer of pudding and a final layer of whipped cream. If we're feeling really energetic, we put chocolate curls on top. If not, we finish it with a cherry. Stick it in the fridge until you're ready to serve it and you're done.

We adapted our recipe from a more elaborate ladyfinger cake recipe. I think it was originally a trifle. The Icebox Desserts book has one that looks similar to the one we adapted on the cover.

Try the Harder Italian Version

I've never tried Italian style ladyfingers in the ladyfinger cake recipe, but I think I'd like them. They are used as a base for some delicious Italian desserts.

Why Do We Call Them Ladyfingers Anyway?

They look sort of like fingers, so I can see where we came up with the name. They have a kind of fun history, though. While sources seem to differ on when and why they were created, they agree that they were first created in the House of Savoy several centuries ago.

Italian style all the way. I don't want mushy ladyfingers!

Oh, American style. I love how spongey they are.

American style - for Italian Tiramisu! LOL
