Who is LadyLovelace?

For someone who has been obsessed with symbolism from a young age, 'blind' is a truly uninspiring thing for your name to mean. I've thought about it more in recent years, though, and it's not as bad as it originally seemed.

Justice, you see, is also blind - now, I'm not setting myself up as the epitome of fairness, at all. But I like to think that I do judge people on their opinions and expression, and not on what they may or may not be.

I hate to think that age, gender, race, sexual preference or any other possible point of divergence has any impact on how valid a person's opinion or point of view is. Whether or not and argument is made in a reasonable manner will always be the important part to me.

First and foremost, I write lenses on Squidoo because I really like the sound of my own voice. Or rather, the sight of my own text. I like to have an audience for my genius.

Secondly, and this is perhaps a sign that I'm doing something a little wrong, I use Squidoo to index my interests. I have the attention span of a hyperactive squirrel, so it's nice to leave a record of things I was interested in at some point. Yeah, I'm using Squidoo as a repository for all the bits and pieces of research I've done - if I just spent two hours looking up information on something, I'm going to build a lens about it. It might save the one other person in the universe who needs the information from going through the effort I did.

Thirdly, I treat Squidoo like a game. I like to see what I can do to affect my lensrank and search traffic and all sorts of other things. It's fun. If I took it seriously, I imagine I'd hate it. You know what the best part is? I'm doing pretty well.

Fourthly - and this is a surprisingly big one - I like to help. I'm not always a nice person, but I am a helpful one, if only because I hate watching people struggle with things that I could help them with. I have a simple philosophy in life; if I can do it, every other person can do it, because I am both lazy and a bit thick when it comes to practical things, with the occasional stroke of genius along the way.
