Lake District Information- your guide to Lake District activities.

I live at White Moss House , Grasmere, in the Lake District, and have written lots of lenses and articles giving information about things to do in the Lake District, Grasmere, Wordsworth's Lake District , Ambleside, and also information about Lake District traditions, Lake District animals, and , Lake District food. There are also tips on how to find the right Lake District accommodation.
Here I've collected all my Lake District Information lenses together. I've also added helpful links suggesting my favorite places to visit in the Lake District.
I'm not the only person on Squidoo writing about the Lake District though, so I've collected the lenses that other lensmasters have written that I think will add great Lake District Information for anyone visiting the Lake District.

The Lake District attracts thousands of visitors every year.
Some people visit the Lake District for the hiking, walking, sailing and the many other outdoor activities that this area of great lakes and mountains provides.
Some people visit the Lake District because they love the poetry of William Wordsworth and the Romantic poets.
Some people visit the Lake District because the love Peter Rabbit and Beatrix Potter, and want to see Beatrix Potter's home at Hilltop, Sawrey.
Some people visit the Lake District to see the home of John Ruskin, the great 19th century artist, poet, author and philospher, at Brantwood, Coniston. This lake district information lens will guide you to all of these Lake District places.
Whatever the reason, the Lake District is one of the most visited areas in the UK. I hope you will find this Lake District Information site helpful.

Go Lakes- the official Accommodation guide of Cumbria Tourism - the Lake District's Official Tourist Board.: The Lake District lies in the county of Cumbria. Cumbria Tourism lists all the accommodation in the region that has been officially inspected and graded.
This website lets you search by area, type of accommodations, and availabilty. It is a great first stop resource for booking your lake distrct stay.
White Moss House- my very own 4 Star Grasmere Guest House: I have to recommend my own 4 Star Grasmere Guest House! White Moss House was owned by Wordsdworth, and is ideally placed for seeing all the Wordsworth attractions.
I have to blow my own trumpet- it's a great location and a historic house!
Brockstone Grasmere Historic self catering cottage: I'll also tell you about my self catering Grasmere vactaion rental cottage- it's got the most amazing views, and is a wonderful place to stay , especially if you love to hike, as it' right on brilliant hiking trails

My favorite guide books to buy or read online for accommodation in the Lake District and the UK

Lake District accommodation can be found in these books.

The Good Hotel Guide- an excellent independent guide to the best hotels and B & Bs in the UK: The authors of this guide are totally independent , highly respected journalists. Their views are backed up by reviews from users
In my opinion, this is one of the best guides around- no one has paid to get in this guide- it has 100% integrity.
Whether you are visiting the Lake District or another UK area, this is a brilliant guide.
Karen Brown's Guides- personally recommended places to stay in the Lake District and the rest of the UK: Karen Brown lives in California, and with her small band of helpers, she has been writing guides to the best places to stay in Europe and America for over 20 years. Her friend , June Brown ( no relation) is British born, and she is responsible for visiting all the UK entires in Karen Brown's Guides.
If you are looking for independent owner run accommodations, personally visited and recommended, then try Karen Browns Guides. Its a guide I always turn to when planning a trip, and I have never been disappointed.

Not only is it very pretty, but it was Wordsworth's home.

For many people, a visit to the Lake District is not complete unless they get on their hiking boots and go for a hike or walk.

"No rain , no lakes" . Yes, The Lake District has a high annual rainfall ( except for this year, 2010, when the first 6 months were dry, and we now are banned from using hosepipes!)
Not everyone wants to hike the hills, sail on the lakes, or do outdoorsy things every day.
These are my favorite non-sporty things to do in the Lake District. Visit historic houses! All are indoors, and are great things to do if the weather is bad.

Blackwell, the Arts and Crafts House.: For all who love the Arts and Crafts movement, William Morris and freinds, Blackwell is heaven.
This beautiful building has been brilliantly restored.
Overlooking Windermere, just outside Bowness. Even the museum shop and the tea room are execellent.
