Lake Eyre is Australia's largest salt lake and is located in Southern Australia's Outback, 647 km south of Adelaide. Most of the lake bed is a dry salt expanse. Very rarely, rain water will fill it to capacity. Lake Eyre National Park is a popular tourist destination and an important cultural site for Aboriginals, who help manage the site. Scenic flights are a popular way to see the lake.

Lake Eyre is actually two lakes called Lake Eyre North and Lake Eyre South. They are connected by Goyder Canal. The two lakes combined are 144 km long and 77 km wide.
