Introduction
The Lake County Chapter of the California Dressage Society (CDS) holds dressage related clinics, horse shows, educational and social meetings, and other events in Lake County, California. Our members share a passion for horses and dressage. New members and guests are always welcome!
From the United States Dressage Federation website at www.usdf.org, "Dressage is a French term meaning "training" and its purpose is to develop the horse's natural athletic ability and willingness to work making him calm, supple and attentive to his rider."

Lake County CDS Chapter 2011 Events Calendar (including some non-CDS events)
Sunday, December 11, 2011 at 4 pm: Lake County CDS ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY and BOARD ELECTION at Anna Macomber's ranch. Board members for 2012 will be elected. Please bring potluck dishes (side salads or desserts) and beverages to share. Roasted meat will be provided by CDS. We'll have a gift exchange for gifts up to $20. - Oak Creek Ranch Academy in Lower Lake is looking for dedicated young riders, who would like to show Kathy Jefferson's Sport Ponies in rated shows. Dr. Karin Hudson will volunteer her time for show prep and potential start of a Lake County USDF Pony Club. This is a great opportunity. - CONGRATULATIONS TO Nicole Muscat on Jazzy Jasmine for receiving a Certificate of achievement for a score of 60% or better at Training Level Test I and Romy Celli on Berry also receiving a Certificate of achievement for 60% or better at Training Level Test II. These Certificates were issued by The California Dressage Society.

- I recently read "Are Dressage Riders Unfair to Their Horses", by Paul Kathen of TexOver Farms, in the USDF Yearbook. It was a very compelling article, well worth reading. You can see it at Paul Kathen's website at www.tex-overfarms.com by clicking on the Articles link and then looking near the bottom of the list for this article. You may recall that Mr. Kathen came to Lake County a few years back and made a very impressive presentation about dressage at the Hidden Valley Lake stables, which was sponsored by our local Rainbow Ag. Also, I got Mr. Kathen's permission to reprint his article in our CDS newsletter so you may see it there, too.
