Lunch in an Hour

I get an hour for lunch every day at work, and sometimes I get tired of packing. Since I work in a small city, I venture out to to see what's out there to eat. Luckily, I work in a downtown district that has lots of choices.

Here, I'm going to tell you about and review some of the places that I have been to for lunch and sometimes dinner in Lancaster, PA. This is by no means a comprehensive list of all the restaurants in Lancaster City, but there are quite a few here that I have been to.

I've also included a list of places to go to for breakfast and where to get dessert. Lastly, I will share my favorite place of all time to eat in Lancaster.

Perhaps this will give someone local an idea to try a new restaurant. Perhaps it will give you the idea to try out a new place in your area!

Caesar Salad with Seared Ahi Tuna

This is a great dish to get at Carr's Restaurant.

Restaurants I Enjoy

Here are the places that I like to go, along with their street address. Get your appetite ready! And in alphabetical order, here are the restaurants I like to patronize.
  • 88 Chinese Express
    31 N. Queen Street, Lancaster, PA 17602
This is your typical Chinese food restaurant. They do tend to get busy, but they get your food out to you in reasonable time. I like to call ahead, so my order is ready by the time I get there.
  • Annie Baileys Irish Pub & Restaurant
    28 E. King Street, Lancaster, PA 17602
This is a pretty fun Irish pub, with a decent lunch menu. It is on the expensive side, so I do not go here often. I recommend the Five Onion Soup.
  • Carr's Restaurant
    50 W. Grant Street, Lancaster, PA 17603
A tad on the pricey side, but Carr's is well worth it. I recommend the Caesar Salad with Rare Seared Ahi Tuna. Fantastic! And the service is great, too.
  • Character's Pub
    38 N. Christian Street, Lancaster, PA 17602
My favorite downtown Irish Pub! I recommend their express lunch specials, especially their soup and salad special. BIG salad and a big bowl of soup. YUM! I also recommend their onion rings. And the burgers are huge.
  • House of Pizza
    21-23 W. Chestnut Street, Lancaster, PA 17603
This is pizzeria with a great selection, great menu, and great lunch specials. My favorite is the one slice and soup special. I recommend calling ahead to get your order because they get BUSY, and stick to the specials; you'll get your food faster.
  • Lancaster Dispensing Company
    33-35 N. Market Street, Lancaster, PA 17602
LDC is one of my favorite places to go overall in Lancaster. It's in an old Victorian house, so it has a lovely ambiance to it. My favorite menu item is the Crab Meat Salad, and they have an express lunch special, too.
  • Marion Court Room
7 Marion Court, Lancaster, PA 17603
This is a popular bar and restaurant with a great outside terrace for eating outside on a nice day. Decent menu, great specials, and it's pretty quiet on a lunch hour.
  • Masala Grille, Authentic Indian Cuisine
    151 N. Queen Street, Lancaster, PA 17603
This place surprised me. The Brunswick Hotel in Lancaster, where the restaurant is located, has a checkered past, but this restaurant is a bright spot. Very good food and lots of vegetarian dishes. YUM! It is a pricey with dinner items and no lunch specials. That is one recommendation I have for this new place in the city: get some good lunch specials.
  • 18 W. Orange Street, Lancaster, PA 17603
I just only recently tried this lovely little coffee shop. They have good food, though it is a tad on the expensive side. They cater well to vegetarians and vegans. If you want a salad or panini, this is a good place to go.">
  • Red Rose
    101 E. King Street, Lancaster, PA 17602
This a very nice restaurant with Greek specialties on the menu. You can get a good sandwich here at not a bad price. The lunch specials are excellent choices here.
  • Sakura Asian Fusion Restaurant
    33 N. Queen Street, Lancaster, PA 17602
Sakura is one of my favorites. it's a Japanese/sushi restaurant. They also server higher quality Chinese and Thai dishes. I only go their on special occasions because they can be a little pricey.
  • Senorita Burrita
    227 N. Prince Street, Lancaster, PA 17603
Senorita Burrita has been around a while, but it is a recent discovery for me. If you are a vegetarian or vegan, they offer a lot of menu choices that cater to your tastes. Check out their special discount days, such as Ladies Wednesday or Manly Thursday, where you can get 10 percent of your order.
  • Yorgo's Restaurant & Lounge
    66 N. Queen Street, Lancaster, PA 17602
This is a decent restaurant that tends to be a fallback if I can't think of any other place to go. They have good food, and lots of Greek specialties. I recommend the rice pudding.

Senorita Burrita

California Mission Style Cuisine

I love all the funky cat figurines they have all over the dining room.

Homemade ice cream and French-press coffee. Need I say more?
  2. La Dolce Vita Court House Bakery
    9 N. Duke Street, Lancaster, PA 17602

  3. Prince Street Café
    15-21 N. Prince Street, Lancaster, PA 17602
This is one of my favorite coffeehouses of all time. Great coffee, wonderful desserts, rich atmosphere. Get there early in the evening because it gets packed!
  4. Square One Coffee
    145 N. Duke Street, Lancaster, PA 17602
This is also a typical coffee shop with a good cup of Joe and an artsy atmosphere. It can be a little pricey.
  5. Super Bread Columbian Bakery
    47 N. Queen Street, Lancaster, PA 17602
The Columbian bakery has real Columbia breads and treats. They have both breakfast and lunch specials. The empanadas are yummy.

Everything is better with a fried egg on top

Sizzling in a stone bowl, is a mixture of beef, vegetables, and rice, with a fried egg on top. Mix it all together and you have some Korean cuisine goodness that you can get at Onion's Cafe.

My Favorite Place to Eat in Lancaster City

Onion's Cafe

This a little hole-in-the wall restaurant that serves diner food and one specialty.....Korean food. That is one specialty that you can't get around here! They only other place to get good Korean is in my friend's kitchen. Anyway, it's a special place with good, authentic Korean food. I recommend the Jap Chay Bap. Plus, you get tons of great Korean appetizers like kimchi and cucumber salad.

Onion's Cafe is located at 340 N. Queen Street, Lancaster, PA ,17603 One note, they only take cash. You will not be disappointed!
