5 Great Tips for a Residential Landscape:
(1) The basis for a wonderful Landscape is planning! Though this is a very important step in a successful plan, many first-time landscapers forget this crucial step ( much to their demise!). Take a clean sheet of paper and mark you existing home structure along with any permanent (already existing) landmarks... such as pathways, planters, flower beds, trees and brick retaining walls.
If you can take actual measurements and transpose those onto your paper, this will help give you some size and scale to work with while developing your new plan.
(2) Look at your yard and find all the natural and artificial items that are available. You can use them in your plan to help craft your vision. Remember to look at the lighting during different parts of the day and night! All the differing looks can effect how you'll lay your yard out to it's best showing! Also, depending on which plants you go with can alter how lighting effect the whole yard. Use nature to your benefit and your vision will come alive!
(3) Determine what the yard is going to do... will it be only for looks or will there be function held in the space. If it's going to be used for special occasions, what will they be and will the area accommodate what's needed? Write all your thoughts out so you can see what it is you are planning. Visualization is a great help in your planning stage.
(4) Once you have all your thoughts and images down on paper, it's time to start thinking about your materials list! Now, this is just a general list and not one that has all the pieces parts with part #'s, lengths and pricing. Nope, this is to get you started thinking about what's going to be needed to make each of your landscaping objects come into being. For example... what type of brick do you want to use for that winding walkway? Will you used smooth stone? Rectangular bricks or a more unconventional style to make an impact? What about the color?
Use your imagination and "SEE" what you want your yard to be!
(5) Now that you can SEE exactly what your yard is going to look like plus the material you'll be using, it's time to sit down and put together a schedule for each aspect of your design. By doing this, you can make the most of your time and be efficient. This will help you if you are planning on getting help to make things go easier and faster. Schedule things like when you go to place your materials order, when that material will be delivered and which aspects will go infront of others.
This is a basis system for planning your upcoming landscaping project but if you follow it, you'll be ahead of most people who try to tackle a project like this with no plan!
Landscaping in Las Vegas with Drip Irrigation
A little Drip and Go a Long Way!
Have you considered how a Drip Irrigation system can help you? Not only with saving water but you could also save a lot of money on your water bill! But, that's not the only reason to have a good drip system, you can water areas of your landscaping that sprinklers can't reach... These are only a few of the reasons to look into a good Drip system!
So, how does a Drip Irrigation system work? Well, it uses small plastic tubes with are attached to your main watering stations. These plastic tubes only allow so much water to be dispersed to all of your flowers, planters, hanging plants and hard to reach areas. Yes, they are connected to a valve which in turn is on a timer but water flow is very limited thus saving you a lot in water waste!
There are numerous drip tips you can use for watering your plants also. Some are fixed flow others have a variable flow that you can adjust manually. Some are just drips while others actually act like mini-sprinklers! Crazy huh? lol....
One reason Drips are so effective at water is that they supply the right amount of water to the plants roots and don't just drench the plants. This helps to encourage health plant growth!
Keeping water waste to a minimum is one of the best reason to use this system, especially if you live in Las Vegas or other cities where it's necessary to conserve water and make the best use of it as you can!
