Effective Language Treatment

This toolbox is designed to highlight the most effective materials I have used over the past 20 years as a Speech-Language Pathologist. I know, I know there are many areas to language therapy, however these materials have proven themselves to be multi-taskers, able to be used for many different areas. Please let me know about your multi-taskers and I'll feature them as well.

The Essentials - Part 1

Focus: Pragmatic Language

Social Skills Activities for Special Children
(J-B Teacher)

Room 14:
A Social Language Program Activities Book

Both of these products are wonderful resources for elementary aged children. Social Skills Activities can also be useful for older students who have limited pragmatic language skills as well as limited overall language skills. Room 14, from Linguisystems , has both a picture story book and a resource guide with consistent characters your students will relate with. Both resources are welcome additions to my toolbox.

The Essentials - Part 2

Focus: Auditory Comprehension

No-Glamour Listening Comprehension

There are many resources out there for auditory comprehension, however I am a fan of the No Glamour series, again, from Linguisystems. The Listening Comprehension title is very useful when applied appropriately.

The Essentials - Part 3

Focus: Everything Else

SORRY

21st Century 20 Questions Card Game

A board game and a card game in a discussion about language treatment? Certainly! A quick browse of any Wal-Mart or Target board game isle reveals a wealth of language games and these two are wonderful examples of games I adapt for therapy use. Sorry is a great direction following game and 20 questions is excellent in it's use of deductive reasoning as well as memory for details. Properly applied almost any game and be a language learning experience.
