Acer Aspire One AOD255-2509 Netbook (Diamond Black)
The Acer Aspire One has an Intel N450 single core processor. This is only slightly slower than the Intel N455 processor that's in the Toshiba Netbook elsewhere on this page. But not by much! If you want a good laptop under $300 from which you can squeeze out some serious performance, this Acer Aspire One AOD255-2509 Netbook is a real good option for you to have a look at.

Dell D600 Laptop 1.6Ghz 40Gb
Dell's D600 Latitude model has a very light & thin design. But don't let the looks fool you. This laptop actually packs quite a bit of power with a 1.6Ghz processor. The hard disk is a solid 40Gb, which is entirely sufficient for school or work related chores. Just don't try to store your entire music and/or movie collection on here.

This Apple iBook was very popular in its day. And even for today, it still doesn't give bad performance. At 800Mhz, this laptop's processor speed runs at only half of, for example, Dell's D600. Despite the lower clock frequency, the G4 processor actually performs equally to other processors that have a much higher clock frequency. The G4 CPU has a very good reputation, which it honestly deserves.

Also, this laptop has 256 Mb of RAM, which can be expanded to 640 Mb if this is what you desire.
