Review: Alienware M15X

15 inch Best in all Categories, Performance & Looks, High Price but worth it!

Alienware's newest and latest makeover to the M15x. Not only does it look hot with it's racing grill and backlit keyboard but with it's Intel Core i7 processor it breaks most benchmarks. Quality and speed doen't come cheap but if you want the best you won't be disappointed. (starting at $1466)

The Look- Package
Stealth futuristic good looks comes in Nebula Red but also available in Lunar Shadow (silver) and Cosmic Black. There aren't any screws that you can see. Alienware crammed customizable colored lights into the chassis with makes a great impression even before getting started.

Touch Pad and Keyboard
The touchpad has a wrist rest and is large and even surface. The two buttons are good but if your gaming mouse with be quicker presses.
The keys seem as if you are typing on a regular desktop keyboard. You can adjust the colored keyboard lights to have different colors on different areas of the keyboard. It's fun to experiment with many possibly different combinations.

Audio & Display
Audio from the speakers can play loud but sound quality was disappointing. There is a lack of bass and actually sounds tinny. For the money I would expect more. The sound separation was good.
The 15.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display is fantastic. It has great contrast is totally crisp.

Webcam & Ports
The 2 megapixel webcam produces excellent images!
The left side has a display port for digital audio, VGA, Ethernet, 1 USB, FireWire & a 4 in 1 memory card reader. The right has a ExpressCard/54 slot, two headphone, mic, USB and a USB/eSTAT combo port that can recharge devices even with the laptop is turned off.

Performance
Basically it kicks butt! It beats out the Alienware M17x and the Toshiba Qosmio X505 and would leave most desktop replacements way behind. It takes about 58 seconds to boot up Windows 7 Ultimate.

Graphics
Alienware uses a Nividia GeForce GTX 260M GPU and 1GB of video memory.

Battery & Wi-Fi
Lasts about 1 hour and 20 minutes.
The Intel Wi-Fi Link 5300 802.11/a/g/n card pulls 17.8 Mbps at 15 feet and 14.2 Mbps at 50 ft. A little below this category's average.

Bottom Line
Alienware's M15x is the fastest 15 inch gaming notebook out there. However there are other options out there which offer more results for the money spent. But if you want the best lookin/ performing 15 inch gaming notebook, this is the one to grab!
