Dainty Summer Flower of July

If you celebrate your birthday in July your flower is the Larkspur. This perennial flower comes in many colors but is best known for the blue shades. Levity and lightheartedness are traits associated with this tall summer flower. Also attributed to the larkspur is a person with an open heart.

Larkspur plants are used for borders in gardens, fillers in bouquets, and they look lovely in dried flower arrangements.

About Larkspur Plants

LarkspurThis lovely summer flower has very tall stems with many branches and comes from the genus ranunculaceous or delphinium. The two names seem to be interchangeable althought the flowers look totally different. Botanist's have now actually divided the two into separate groups.

European larkspur is used in healing poisonous stings and is also dried and used to make insecticides.

American larkspur was used by Native Americans to make a blue dye and late by settlers to make ink.

A long time favorite of gardeners for it's height and long spikes of flowers.

Larkspur Seed Choices

You can choose from a variety of seeds to plant to have larspur the flower of July in your garden. I think they add a bit of charm and also reminds me of the old fashioned gardens that our Grandmothers had.

Beautiful flower....I don't have any in my perennial garden now. I'll have to investigate whether they would grow in zone 3-4.
