MEET LA ROUX, THE ANDROGYNOUS GIRL FROM HERNE HILL AND THE INVISIBLE PRODUCER
La Roux is a British electropop duo formed by Elly Jackson (the lady singer with red hair) and Ben Langmaid, co-writer and co-producer; at first sight it may look as a solo act as the invisible producer is nowhere to be seen, leaving poor little shy Elly in the spotlight.
I decided to write this page as a tribute to Elly, who grew up in Herne Hill, an area of London which is very dear to me, scenario of "oh so many nights" at the Commercial Hotel, Mela, The Florence... despite this the website of La Roux shows pictures of electric avenue in Brixton and I wonder why it does not show Herne Hill and the Blackbird bakery for example!! Certainly Brixton is much more powerful commercially as an image rather than the quiet and relatively unknown Herne Hill area.
Elly and Ben met in 2006. Their debut album "la Roux" was released on June 29, 2009 by Polydor Records and is out now.
