How to Create a Las Vegas Adventure

8 Steps to a Las Vegas Adventure
Las Vegas Adventure means doing things in and around the Las Vegas Valley that make you feel really alive. That activate all your senses. That burn themselves into your memory. And still make you smile 20 years from now.
I'm not talking about doing anything illegal. Or anything dangerous. No need to.
Las Vegas excels at fulfilling your desires right here & now.
Vegas also offers so many options that most people stick with a few safe & familiar things they THINK they will like. (See 8 Idiot-Proof Ways to Screw Up your Las Vegas Adventure.)
Instead...I'm saying...
Break Out of Your Rut !!
Throw away the "let's make reservations" mentality. Seize the Day. And Live in the Moment. Try a Perfect Vacation: Create Your Own Las Vegas Adventure.

Las Vegas Adventure - the Concept
If nothing is planned, nothing can go wrong !!
If you're like me, living life to the fullest means being SPONTANEOUS. Being willing to roll the dice. And see what life has to offer.
Let's be clear... I'm not talking about being wild and crazy. Or reckless. Or irresponsible.
I'm talking about exploring what you love about life. And finding new things that get you excited about life. Instead of settling for what everyone else says is most popular.
For the rest of this page, I'll describe how I'd create my own Las Vegas Adventure.
* IMPORTANT NOTE: Lots of police & security personnel with cameras work very hard to keep The Strip visitor-friendly. Even so...PLEASE listen to your instincts. And use your head to make safe & intelligent decisions. ALSO: see A Few Closing Words...
A Life as an Adventure Story...
I know this book is not specifically about vacationing. But it does illustrate my main point: sometimes what everyone else does may not be right for you. In these cases, follow your heart. And do all you can to unlock the mysteries and wonders of your unique journey. Whether it's a few days on vacation. Or the rest of your time on earth.
Las Vegas Adventure - the Only Rule

Step 1 -- No Reservations for Anything.
This may sound daring. And sometimes it is.
But going into the summer of 2009 during the economic slump, there's plenty of vacant rooms along The Las Vegas Strip. And lots of deep discounts on everything.
Chances are better than ever that you can negotiate some pretty incredible deals on the spot.
Give it a try. What have you got to lose? There's lots of hotels.
In return, you get to PLAY like children play.
You have complete freedom to check things out before you commit. Discover what gets you REALLY excited. And give it a try then and there.
More about Play
Create a New Identity
Feeling a little uneasy about trying this Life as an Adventure stuff? Sometimes a little fantasy role-play can ease the tension. Imagine living your life as someone else using this online tool. Being more flexible in your imagination can help prepare you for being more flexible in real life. (LVCVA)
The Value of Play
"Play in our species...provides a state of mind that, in adults as well as children, is uniquely suited for high-level reasoning, insightful problem solving, and all sorts of creative endeavors." (Psychology Today)
Suburban Warrior Syndrome
"From The Matrix to Harry Potter, heroic fantasy is hot stuff. These modern epics tap into our frustrated impulse to be 21st-century knights. And may even help unleash the workaday hero inside each of us." (Psychology Today)
Las Vegas Adventure - the Preparation
Step 2 -- Pack Lightly.
Ideally, pack only 1 bag per person with clothing and personal grooming items. Bring nothing else. No sports gear. No iPOD. No video games. Nothing.
If you find you need something you don't have: Borrow it. Rent it. Or buy it. When you're finished, return it. Or immediately give it away to someone who will appreciate it.
Here's a great opportunity to use all your senses and your full attention to interact whole-heartedly with the Twilight-Zone world we call Las Vegas.
More about Packing...
Anyone who's traveled on a regular basis knows that packing is an art. Here's some people who can help you become a packing Picasso.
Las Vegas Adventure - the Resort
Step 3 -- Book a Room that WOWs You.
Vegas features many of the world's most spectacular resort properties. And each one has an impressive website to convince you that you want to stay there.
But there's really nothing that compares to driving down Las Vegas Blvd. and seeing each resort up close for yourself.
All of a sudden, they're REAL. Bigger than Life. With Bright Lights. And Lots of Amenities you can see, and hear, and touch.
That's when something GRABS you. And you know: "I HAVE TO STAY AT THIS ONE !!!"
What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas!
Las Vegas Adventure - the Challenge
Step 4 -- Act Spontaneously.
Allow yourself the freedom to discover new & exciting things without pre-judging them.
Ultimately, you want to give yourself permission to Live Completely in the Moment. But with your full attention focused on whatever you're doing. No multitasking. No distractions.
Do only what you want. When you want it. For as long as you want. Then walk away. And find something else.
Soon you'll find a rhythm. And a tempo. You'll find your flow -- your Vacation Zone. Just relax. And enjoy the ride.

The Art of Now: Six Steps to Living in the Moment
We live in the age of distraction. Yet one of life's sharpest paradoxes is that your brightest future hinges on your ability to pay attention to the present. (Psychology Today)
Las Vegas Adventure - the Exploration

Step 5 -- Move Around. Explore. Get Oriented.
Get out of the hotel room. Start seeing what's available on site. What's near by. And what's in town while you're here.
Pick up copies of the publications below. And check out the websites. They contain events calendars, local news, coupons and discount offers, gossip, and more. ...Basically everything that's going on.
Las Vegas Exploration Starts Here...
Las Vegas Weekly
The local weekly alternative news tabloid. Has the most complete listings for events throughout the valley, not just on The Las Vegas Strip. Check out the Comprehensive Nightclub Guide. FREE. Comes out every Thursday.
Las Vegas CityLife
Alternative to the 'alternative.' Where Las Vegas Weekly caters to tourists with slick and gloss, CityLife screams: "Let's find the local dirt!" Usually pretty decent in-depth reporting on Las Vegas politics and scandals. FREE. Comes out every Thursday.
Las Vegas Magazine
Should be in your hotel room. Or ask at check-in about finding a copy. Then scan the ads for coupons. FREE. Comes out every Sunday.
944
Fashion - Entertainment - Lifestyle. Kind of a grown-up high-school yearbook for the beautiful club-scene people. Lots of posing & mugging for the camera. First-class photography, layout, printing and paper stock. Definitely something Las-Vegas-y worth taking home to show friends and family. FREE. Published monthly.
SpyOnVegas.com
By the same publisher as 944. Features upcoming nightclub events, photo gallery, member profiles & more.
What's On - Las Vegas Guide Online
Highlights the latest in dining, gaming, entertainment, shopping as more, as well as coupons for everything.
Las Vegas Television: 702.TV
Las Vegas news reporting on the Net.

Las Vegas Adventure - the People

Step 6 -- Talk with People.
Meeting great people can elevate an average Vegas vacation to a Perfect Las Vegas Adventure.
They can transform a dull afternoon into a celebration.
They can tell you about places, events & activities you'd probably miss on your own.
They can change your life forever with a few words. Or a kind gesture.
And you can make a difference in their lives, too. A gift you might remember for years to come.

Las Vegas Adventure - the Reset Button
Step 7 -- Take a Time-Out.
If you find yourself starting to push or getting anxious for no apparent reason, you've lost your flow. You're out of your Vacation Zone.
Another way to say it: you've lost touch with what's going on around you. More importantly, lost touch with who YOU REALLY ARE. And what YOU came to Las Vegas for.
Something is not right. You're probably...
- In the wrong place.
- With the wrong people. And/or...
- Doing the wrong thing.
...Because you've shifted to Living in your Head. Rather than Living Life in the Moment.
Take a break. Change something. Fix it.
Las Vegas Adventure - the Pitfalls
Here's a Few More Things to Watch Out For.
Las Vegas Adventure - the Test
Step 8 -- Share Your Adventure.
Twitter. Blog. Youtube. Flickr. Picasa. Facebook. MySpace. Texting. Blah. Blah. Blah.
Sharing photos, videos, tweets & messages in real-time on vacation. What could be better?
Nothing. As long as you don't get caught up in performing for your audience. And lose touch with what YOU came here for.
Sometimes it's better to use your cell phone ONLY to stay connected to the other members of your Adventure Group. Or to check in regularly with a trusted friend at home.
You can always share the photos, videos and stories when you get back.
