Muay Thai is one of the best self defense arts a person can learn. It is the national sport in Thailand.

Tips on choosing a kickboxing gym

lasvegasmuaythai.comBefore you ever even head out the door you need to think about a few things. First you need to know what your budget is. How much can you spend on a gym membership or kickboxing classes. Some gyms charge around $20.00 a month and others charge upwards of over $150.00 a month. That's not to mention private lessons. Keep in mind the times of the classes and when you will be going.

Do your research. Visit all the gyms online. Check them out. Read any reviews or blogs about the gym. Second go see the gym. There were times I thought a gym looked cool online but as soon as I physically saw it I knew I wasn't going there.

Take advantage of the free or first workout. Some gyms offer a free workout or small fee for a trial workout. Do It! There is no better way to really get a feel for a gym and instructors than taking a trial class. This is perfect. However, be prepared for the sales pitch after the class. But don't be scared. This is one of the best ways to try out a gym before you commit.

Cardio Kickboxing at home. If after all your search you may find that nothing interested you. Let me tell you, you can get an awesome workout in the privacy of your own home. I used to workout at home in the morning and kickbox at night. I lost about 30 pounds. You can incorporate kickboxing and Muay Thai routines for a awesome workout at home too. There are some great DVD's and equipment for a home workout.

Tips on the Kickboxing equipment you will need

lasvegasmuaythai.comSo you decided to join a gym or workout at home. The basic equipment you need is easy. You will need to find something comfortable to wear. More important are the boxing gloves and hand wraps you buy. Get good boxing hand wraps! There is a difference and your wrists and hands need the support no matter where you work out. Some flex and some don't. Some are longer and some shorter. A good Muay Thai/Kickboxing hand wrap will be made of flexible fabric with thumb loops. I recommend longer wraps. You will give your wrists more support. Maybe I'll do a video on how to wrap your hands.

Boxing Gloves
If you are just starting out then choose a basic boxing glove. Get gloves that use Velcro around the wrist. You can adjust them easily and quickly. You will appreciate this when you go to grab a quick drink of water. Other than that you can pay more and upgrade later when you know you are truly going to stick with it. BUY BIG ENOUGH! One of the most common mistakes a person makes is forgetting to leave room for your hand wraps. Your wraps will take up some room inside the boxing gloves. You must buy a large enough size and leave room for your wrapped hand.

Now have a blast!

Enjoy Life!
