You Need a Plan...
for your Vegas Themed Event
You don't go to the grocery store without a list -- you make a list of gifts to purchase at the holidays -- the same holds true for successful events and purchasing decor.
Draw a plan of your room/venue. The more detailed the better. Most venue managers will let you in to take measurements or might even already have a floor plan you can use. This is a critical step. You don't want to purchase decorations that you find out later won't fit or you don't have room for. Below is a checklist of details you need before tackling the decorating.
Now, draw your floor plan!

Draw a plan of your room/venue. The more detailed the better. Most venue managers will let you in to take measurements or might even already have a floor plan you can use. This is a critical step. You don't want to purchase decorations that you find out later won't fit or you don't have room for. Below is a checklist of details you need before tackling the decorating.- How high are the ceilings?
- Are there any closets, columns, a bar or other immovable structures in the room you should know about?
- Where are the doors (entrance, kitchen, service, restrooms, etc...) located?
- Are there any windows that will impact your decor plan?
- What shape and size are the tables you will use?
- Is there a foyer, ante room, or other entrance area outside the actual room?
- If so, can you decorate that area as well?
Now, draw your floor plan!

I use SmartDraw

I have used SmartDraw for years to draw my floor plans. In their "Floor Plans" section, they have pre-drawn templates you can adjust for your needs or you can start from scratch. They have all sizes and shapes of tables you can plunk into your drawing as well as hundreds of other gallery images you may need such as a: stage, head table, buffet table, chairs, podiums, fireplaces, etc... It is all customizable to your event!

Breaking Down Your Vegas Party Theme Decor Space
While every venue is a bit different, they all contain certain elements that are perfect for breaking down and creating a decor plan. These are:- The Entrance - Whether it is just a door or an ante room of some sort, there is a beginning to your event. This is the first area your guests will see and should be decorated.
- The Focal Point - Whether it is a stage, dais or head table, almost all events have a main focal point.
- Bar and/or buffet area - Most events will have a bar available for guests. Additionally, some will also have a buffet of some sort. It could be an hors d'oeuvres buffet, dessert buffet or even a cocktail style event with stations containing different types of foods. These are all opportunities to create a Buffetscape that will add to the ambiance of the event.
- Dead Spaces - Most all events will have corners or areas of dead space. Maybe there is an area leading to the restrooms that could be decorated or behind a stage or head table. Look for dead space and utilize it for decor.
These spaces as well as other main areas of your event are prime candidates for
"Creating Vignettes".

The definition of a "Vignette" in decorating terms is setting a scene (think movie and play sets/scenery) in a space that continues your theme. For more information, visit the article What is a Vignette?

Las Vegas Style!
Las Vegas is a city unduplicated. It's an adult fairytale. Where else can you go inside an Egyptian style pyramid, walk a few blocks and go back to medieval times, walk a few more blocks and find yourself in the middle of a pirate ship battle? One way to incorporate a Las Vegas theme into your event is to name the tables after the world famous hotels and casinos (old and new). go a step further and build or make your tables each reflect their namesake. For instance:
The Luxor - This Egyptian style pyramid shaped building is black and has a beam of light that shoots up into the desert sky at night. Here is a pattern to make a square pyramid. Adjust to the size you want and add an LED light to simulate the beam of light. Accessorize with Egyptian statues, and palm tree figurines or candle holders.
Excalibur - Castle, sword in a stone, crowns, jewels, etc...
Paris, Las Vegas - Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Hot Air Ballon, beret, red geraniums, wine, etc...
Treasure Island - Pirates chest with gold bullion, Jolly Roger, sword, parrot, ship, etc...
Flamingo - pink feathers, flamingos, palm trees, water features, beaded masks, etc...
Circus, Circus - striped tent fabric, pennants, pop corn, elephant figurine, top hat, etc...
The Venetian - replica gondola, striped pole candle holder, straw hat, italian map, etc...
The Frontier - cowboy boot vase, rope, faux barbed wire, cowboy hat, bandana, etc...
New York, New York - Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Apple, Broadway tickets or framed small show poster, etc...
You get the idea!

It wouldn't be Las Vegas without Neon Lights! Add any of these around the venue to add to the ambient lighting and Vegas atmosphere!

- I lived in Las Vegas for 4 years, and got married there. My brother still lives in Vegas and drives a limo there. My parents visited twice a year when they were alive. My sister got married there too. So I guess you could say we are a Vegas loving family, and we have had lots of casino parties.
