14 Student Ministry leaders reveal...

I'm the author of a new ebook called, "How To Build A Lasting Student Ministry".

In this ebook, I got 14 top student ministry leaders from around the country to reveal what they'd do if they had to start all over again... from scratch.

You can see one of the interviews for free at: http://www.lasting-student-ministry.com

What If You Had To Start All Over Again?

The situation

What would you do if you were put into this situation as a youth pastor?...

You are snatched from your current church (or other current job) and put at a church in the suburbs where you have to start all over again. There are five kids there.

Two are the senior pastor's kids. There are three boys and two girls. Two are in High School and three are in Junior High.

You are asked to build a ministry that will continue on after you leave. You have one year to do this. You have a limited budget.

Where would you start?

* How would you grow this group numerically?
* How would you help it grow spiritually?

Two even more important questions...

* How would you make sure that what you did there would have a lasting impact on those students' lives?

* How would you make sure you left a ministry that would last?

I was in student ministry for about 14 years. I really loved being a youth pastor and I miss those days.

One thing that I hated to see in my own ministry was when students that you poured your life into, walked away from the Lord when they graduated.

The thing I hated that I saw, or heard of, in other groups was when a youth group collapsed and disintergrated when their youth pastor left.

I learned a lot in those 14 years to know what it takes to build a lasting student ministry, but I also wanted to know what others thought. I wondered...

What would the top student leaders do if they had to start all over?

No large church.
No large budget.
Just a small church with a small youth group.

So what did I do? I asked them!

That's how the idea for my ebook started.

  • "Student Ministry Lessons From A Legally Blind Bowler"
By Scott Aughtmon of "How To Build A Lasting Student Ministry"

    .................................

I read a newstory recently a 94 YEAR OLD, legally blind woman,
    who bowled a 244!

Seriously, I'm not making this up!

    How can she do that?

She does it by listening to her husband describe what pins
are left after her first throw.

    Think about this...

She obviously has skills, but is there any way for her to
possibly bowl that well without her husband's help?

    No way!

She has to listen to his advice, because he can see what she
can't! To not listen, or to not follow his instructions
    would be stupid!

Let me ask you 3 questions:

-Can you see what's in front of you or your group?
-Can you tell me what will happen at your next group night?
-Can you tell me what will happen a month or year from now?

    You know the answer.

If you can't do all these things, then who are you listening
    to?

You need to (I need to) listen more to God! He's the only
one who can see what we can't.

He can give us the advice about which way to go to see better
    results.

In 2 Corinthians 4:18 Paul said this,

"So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.
For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

Listening to others, who have been through what we've been
throw and have more experience than we do, is a good thing
to do. We should do that.

We just have to make sure that we always take their advice
and opinions, and our own opinions, and ask our Father in
heaven if it's the RIGHT advice.

One more thing about the blind bowler...

The article says she's been bowling since 1979. I calculated
that out and that means she started when she was 66 years
    old!

She's had 28 years of practicing to learn to listen and
throw the right way to hit the pins.

It takes practice to hear and respond to God's leading.

    We better start now!
