"The Meadows"

Las Vegas is known worldwide for its casinos and hotels. Some of the oldest Las Vegas hotels have been standing for more than 50 years, such as the Tropicana, Sahara, and Riviera. In recent years, Vegas has become the destination for more than just casino games, but also for golf vacations and family holidays.

Las Vegas Hotels
Not unlike other cities throughout the United States in recent decades, Las Vegas experienced a move away from the downtown. The city's first mega resort, The Mirage, opened in 1989 and started a movement of people and construction away from downtown Las Vegas to the "suburbs". The result was a drop in tourism for the downtown area. Recent projects and condo construction have lead to an increase in visitors to the downtown area once again.
The largest hotel and casino in the world is the MGM Grand. This hotel has more than 5,000 rooms, and is currently expanding to accommodate more tourists. Rooms range from $200 and above, depending on the season.
The most expensive hotel construction project to date in Las Vegas was the Wynn Resort and Casino, with a total construction cost of more than $2.7 billion. It has been reported that some of the rooms in the hotel cost more than $1 million to design. The property also includes a large golf course behind the hotel. If you intend to play bring some greenbacks. A round of golf at the Wynn golf course will set you back about $500.
There are many hotel casinos in the city's downtown area as well, which was the original focal point of the city's gaming industry in its early days.
One of the more well known casinos is The Golden Nugget. It is the largest casino in the downtown area, with a total of 1,907 rooms. Originally built in 1946, it is one of the oldest casinos in the city.
Another recognizable downtown casino is The Four Queens. This casino opened in 1966 and is named after the the builder's four daughters.
Both casinos are part of The Fremont Street experience, a pedestrian mall and attraction in downtown Las Vegas. The Fremont Street Experience was conceived in the 1990s as a way to draw more people to the ailing downtown gambling area. The attraction is a barrel vault canopy, 90 feet high at the peak that covers four blocks. It was originally completed in July 1995 and in June 2004, a $17 million upgrade was unveiled that features a new LED display.
Several hotels and casinos are located just off the Strip but adjacent to it. One such hotel that is 'just off the beaten path' is the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino. It is a more modest property away from the hustle and bustle of the strip, but still offers many of the same amenities as the larger hotels while providing easy access to the "action".

"Golf Vacations Fit to a Tee"
- Bear's Best Golf Club
- It's fitting that Jack Nicklaus would design his first Bear's Best Premier Daily Fee Golf Course in Las Vegas. In a city known for its unique experiences, Bear's Best and Las Vegas create the perfect twosome. Conveniently located 20 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip and McCarran International Airport, Bear's Best features 18 spectacular holes selected by Jack Nicklaus from his 200 course designs worldwide. In addition to memorable golf holes, the Clubhouse features "Jack's Place Grille and Lounge" complete with photos, plaques, and other memorabilia from Nicklaus' legendary career, a 5,000 square-foot outdoor pavilion perfect for large outings and a spacious indoor dining area.
- Lake Las Vegas - Reflection Bay Course
- Reflection Bay Golf Club is the first public resort golf course in Nevada personally designed by Jack Nicklaus, and the host course to the nationally televised Wendy's Three-Tour Challenge benefiting the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. The 7,261-yard, par-72 award-winning course makes its way through the desert while providing breathtaking views of Lake Las Vegas. Sculpted from the terrain's natural contours with strategic bunkering and pristine greens, the course features three waterfalls and plays around arroyos and water. Five holes are located along one and a half miles of Lake Las Vegas' majestic shoreline. Reflection Bay highlights include the picturesque 199-yard, par-3 eighth hole and beaches, bunkers and palms that create a dynamic shoreline and backdrop.
- Lake Las Vegas - The Falls Golf Club
- The newest course at Lake Las Vegas Resort is The Falls Golf Club, a masterpiece designed by Tom Weiskopf. The 7,250-yard, par-72 course challenges golfers with terrain that varies from the mountainous landscape to the desert floor, creating elevation changes ranging from subtle on the front nine to dramatic on the back nine. Resort guests are astounded by the course's breathtaking scenery including spectacular views of Lake Las Vegas, the surrounding mountains and the Las Vegas Strip in a unique, dramatic, and natural setting.
- Las Vegas Paiute - Wolf Course
- The most recent course addition to the Paiute family, the theme here is "long," measuring 7511 yards from the back tees - intimidating for even the most skilled player. Along with the length, Dye made sure to cause problems for big hitters by utilizing the natural desert wash areas that surround the entire facility, thus requiring players to be long and accurate from the tee boxes to clear the ravines and find the short grass. The fairways are tight and the greens are small; there is simply very little room for error if you plan on scoring well at this course. However, for better players who demand the very best, the Paiute Wolf course delivers on every level.
- Las Vegas Paiute Snow Mountain
- The Snow Mountain course is the original (opening in 1995) and continues to receive reviews from major publications as the top golf course in the state. Golf Digest awarded the Snow Mountain course 4 1/2 stars, and the ranking could not be more deserved. This golf course is located on the Paiute Indian Reservation, which allows absolutely no development other than the golf courses themselves. You will not see a car, a home, or any other obstruction that deters from a truly wonderful golf experience.
- Las Vegas Paiute Sun Mountain
- Sun Mountain opened a year after the Snow Course, and is considered to be a "kindler, gentler" Pete Dye design. Don't believe it, this course is every bit as tough as its predecessor from the back tees, and challenges golfers with long, tight fairways that are immaculate every day of the year. The greens on both the Snow and Sun Mountain courses are always in perfect shape and will roll true if, that is, you have mastered the ability to read severe undulations and lightening quick putts.
- Revere At Anthem - Concord
- The Revere presents a blend of beauty and challenge unlike any other in Southern Nevada. Draped through the rugged desert canyons and valleys of the Las Vegas foothills, The Revere offers unending, awe-inspiring views of the city below and mountains beyond. And, the stunning Lexington and Concord courses will test your shot making capabilities with classic risk/reward scenarios, and provide you with a variety of options to accommodate your game, regardless of skill level.
- Revere At Anthem - Lexington
- Just as revolutions mark turning points in history, the Revere at Anthem is a turning point in Las Vegas Golf. The Revere presents a blend of beauty and challenge unlike any other in southern Nevada. The secret to this lies in the careful manner its tees, fairways and greens were draped through the rugged desert canyons and valleys of the Las Vegas foothills. As a result, The Revere offers unending awe inspiring views of the city below and the mountains beyond. The course is located 15 minutes from the Las Vegas strip.
- Aliante Golf Club
- Aliante is an exciting and challenging course that stretches more than 7,000 yards from the back tees. The presence of the meandering arroyo that comes into play on 14 holes causes the golfer to feel slightly elevated, providing interesting contours and unique playing lies and angles. The course is highlighted by numerous water features, generous landing areas, and strategic use of trees that are not commonly found in most desert courses, such as Pear and Purple Locust trees. True to his design philosophy, Panks has once again fashioned a golf course that will challenge the expert to utilize every club in the bag while providing an enjoyable experience for the novice golfer.
- Rhodes Ranch Golf Club
- Born out of the desert at the base of the Spring Mountains and located just minutes from the famous Las Vegas strip, this fabulous facility has quickly become a leader in golf in the Vegas area. Designed by renowned architect Ted Robinson, the layout provides a unique blend of challenge and playability to golfers of all skill levels. Highlighted by a group of par threes which Robinson calls the best that he has ever designed, this 6,909 yard course will envelop you in its lush tropical surroundings while providing you with a world-class golf experience.
- Tuscany Golf Club
- Tuscany Golf Club is the newest course to arrive on the Las Vegas golf scene. Re-opened on July 17, 2004 and designed by Ted Robinson, this lush Par-72 has all the makings of a premier course and will mostly like become a favorite for those who would want a good day of golf. The course is playable for all levels, however better players will notice strategically placed bunkering that comes into play from the back tees on most holes. There are many water features that highlight your round and create enough challenge for even the best player to conquer. Located 20 minutes from the strip in Henderson, Tuscany Golf Club will fit the bill for a nice, casual round of golf in a setting that is pristine.
- Badlands Golf Club
- The Badlands possesses all the requisite features of an eminently difficult track and the architects have expertly integrated multiple tees on each hold to offer a course which can be enjoyed by golfers of all abilities. The Badlands offers three 9-hole courses to choose from: Desperado, Diablo and Outlaw.
- Siena Golf Club
- Siena Golf Club in Summerlin features a well-planned residential golf course complimented by rolling fairways and greens. Panoramic views of the Las Vegas Strip are accented by the western mountains and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The 18-hole par 72, Schmidt-Curley designed championship course has 85 bunkers and six water hazards, making strategy, not distance, a priority. Siena's primary goal is to provide you with the most pleasant golfing experience in Las Vegas, with the highest quality customer service provided in its restaurant and golf operation.
- Red Rock Country Club - Arroyo Course
- Gently swaying palms, cascading waterfalls, and emerald green fairways weave a colorful tapestry that sprawls across the rolling terrain of what once was a desert. Here, the sculpting hands of nature and time have been artfully aided by the timeless design of a modern day master, Arnold Palmer. His courses offer a prism of challenge, beauty, and escape. Each hole inviting competition and camaraderie against panoramic views of cityscapes and towering mountains, creating the most stunning golfing experience in Las Vegas.

- Angel Park - Mountain Course
- Welcome to Angel Park Golf Club, the "world's most complete golf experience." At almost 3000 feet in elevation, Angel Park offers spectacular views of Red Rock Canyon and the Las Vegas Valley. Angel Park Golf Club features 36 holes of championship golf designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer, the lighted Cloud Nine Short Course and the world's original natural grass Putting Course. The Mountain Course is desert golf at its finest. Winding through the rolling natural terrain and skirting dense stands of native vegetation, this course is at an elevation of 2,800 feet and features panoramic views of the Spring Mountains, Red Rock Mountains and the Las Vegas skyline that are simply spectacular.
- Angel Park - Palm Course
- Welcome to Angel Park Golf Club, the "world's most complete golf experience." At almost 3000 feet in elevation, Angel Park offers spectacular views of Red Rock Canyon and the Las Vegas Valley. Angel Park Golf Club features 36 holes of championship golf designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer, the lighted Cloud Nine Short Course and the world's original natural grass Putting Course. The Palm Course requires plenty of distance off the tees and finesse around the undulating greens, however, the course's receptive fairways and multiple tee placements keep it from overwhelming beginning and intermediate players.
- Rio Secco Golf Club
- Rio Secco's layout gives you three different looks. There are six holes on plateaus with breathtaking views of the city, six holes in a broad desert wash and six holes laid in step canyons. As play progresses, so does the challenge as the course weaves through the ever-changing terrain. The highlight of this 18-hole layout is the portion which overlooks Las Vegas.
By simply standing on the tee box, one can get an ideal panoramic view of everything the valley has to offer. Rio Secco Golf Club was designed and built in 1997 by golf course architect Rees Jones. When Rio Secco opened in 1997 Golf Digest and Golf Magazine voted it among the top ten new courses. In 2003/2004 Golf Digest - "America's 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses." Voted the # 1 public access course in Nevada by the Las Vegas PGA membership poll along with many other awards. - TPC Las Vegas
- Opened in 1996, TPC Las Vegas, which has hosted the SENIOR PGA TOUR's Las Vegas Classic in past years, is an integral part of the nation's largest master-planned community, Summerlin. The community is also home to TPC at Summerlin, a private membership club. The natural elements at TPC Las Vegas are impossible to overlook. Dramatic scenery abounds, including a view of Red Rock Canyon. Much of the indigenous vegetation was preserved. Some was transplanted. Weed and Floyd took great care in considering the natural drainage when the routing was conceived.
But it is the raw landscape within the course boundaries that are most fascinating - and frustrating - for golfers. While the course meanders over several hundred acres, it has only 110 acres of irrigated land - another plus in the realm of environmental conservation and wildlife preservation. There is little wonder why TPC Las Vegas was the 138th course in the world - and just the second in Nevada at the time it opened - to earn distinction as a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System. - Boulder Creek Golf Club
- The countries newest premier golf club, the Boulder Creek Golf Club, designed by Mark Rathert, opened January 2003. Mr. Rathert has created an enjoyable and fair golf course with all golfers in mind, creating six teeing grounds stretching from 4900 to 7600 yards. With open fairways, no blind shots, and no hidden hazards, Boulder Creek Golf Club offers great golf in a great atmosphere. -ou can look out and see the streams and waterfalls as you leave the Clubhouse, and as you play the first holes you have beach bunkers and palm trees and the effect of an oasis look.
- The Legacy Golf Club
- Designed by acclaimed golf course architect Arthur Hills, The Legacy Golf Club is an 18-hole, desert jewel highlighted by manicured playing conditions, multi-tiered fairways and large undulating greens. Stretching 7,233 yards from the professional tees, this memorable layout is a strong challenge for the scratch player, yet also accommodates the novice with well-spaced tee boxes and generous landing areas. And speaking of tee boxes, the 10th hole at The Legacy may be the most recognizable in all of Las Vegas. Each tee box is in the shape of playing cards suits: Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs and Spades. Also notorious at this premier facility, is the Devil's Triangle." Holes 11, 12, and 13 make for a devilish trio of exciting challenges. The Legacy has become synonymous in Las Vegas for providing country club-style services and amenities. In fact, The Legacy Golf Club was selected as one of the "Top 10 Courses You Can Play" in Nevada, by Golf Digest.
- Desert Pines Golf Club
- Desert Pines Golf Club is described by many as "The Pinehurst" of Las Vegas. This Dye designed course features thousands of mature pine trees lining the fairways. White sand bunkers protect large, undulating greens with water coming into play on 9 out of 18 holes. Desert Pines is extremely convenient, located less than 10 minutes from downtown and less than 15 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. This course provides players of all abilities a fun and rewarding experience ... one in which you'll use every club in your bag. Golf Digest has recognized Desert Pines as one of the best new upscale courses in the country.
- Bali Hai Golf Club
- The only championship course located right on the Las Vegas Strip, Bali Hai is a tropical golfer's paradise, highlighted by 7 acres of water features, a signature island green, more than 4,000 trees including 2,500 stands of towering palms and 100,000 tropical plants and flowers. It offers a boutique shopping experience with a wide variety of high-end apparel, equipment and gift items for both women and men. Callaway Club and FootJoy shoe rentals are also offered at the Golf Shop. - Royal Links
- Royal Links Golf Club was created to honor the rich tradition and history of the game of golf. It is one of the most unique playing experiences in the country. This Links style course faithfully recreates holes inspired by the British Open rotation such as "The Road Hole" and "Hell Bunker" from the old course at St. Andrews and "The Postage Stamp" from Royal Troon. Other courses in the loop include Carnoustie, Turnberry, Royal Liverpool, Prestwick, Royal Lytham, Muirfield and Royal Birkdale. Forecaddies are available and recommended as many of the holes are truly Scottish in design and flair, and have deep, hidden bunkers and hazards. Monuments were erected at various points throughout the course indicating spots where great moments in British Open history took place. A Champions Wall is erected near the practice green honoring American champions of the British Open. This isn't your typical round of golf, and whether you are into the history of the game or just want a shot at Tiger Woods course record of 67 (Feb., 2001), Royal Links will provide you with some very memorable golfing.
The castle-style clubhouse adds to the atmosphere and includes a golf shop, which was named one of the top golf shops in America by Golf World Business Magazine in 2004.
