Laughter Is Contagious!
Does anybody remember the 1962 outbreak of contagious laughter in Tanganyika? It began with a group of teenage schoolgirls and it rose quickly to epidemic proportions.
We all have been there: somebody starts laughing, and the sound and energy of laughter infects everyone else in the room. Pretty soon, one can see people pull out their handkerchiefs to wipe tears off of their cheeks...
In this lens I will show gut-busting examples of laughing babies, chuckling and screaming in innocent joy over "little nothings". Furthermore, we'll laugh with some TV personalities who simply couldn't control themselves anymore. TV bloopers are always funny because of our natural human trait of enjoying someone else's misfortune, especially when they're supposed to present a more serious facade.
The grand finale, however, shall have you reach for a fresh pack of "Depends". Pardon the possible exaggeration, but the last video on this lens, the one from the "Comedy Barn", definitely made me feel like I'm going to pee my pants!
O.k., folks - hold on to your chairs and dig in. You might have to take a break in between these clips, but after you're done with this page your abs will have gone through some mighty good exercises. Enjoy!
Laugh At These Laughable Facts About Laughter
Laughter is the best medicine? You bet!
Don't laugh now - we really don't know what we're doing when we laugh. It's like a universal language that binds all of us on Earth together, but astonishingly little research has actually been done on the "science of laughter".Aside from the obvious - funny situations - we don't know what actually triggers our laughing reactions. It appears to be an instinctive behavior programmed by our genes. Could we say that "ha-ha", "ho-ho", and "he-he" are part of a hidden language vocabulary that is recognized by all cultures across the globe?
We don't have to think about laughing at the right moment - it just happens. Of course, there are social situations when we consciously force ourselves to laugh. The boss tells a lousy joke - we better pretend to be rolling on the floor at his incredible "sense of humor". That's no joking matter, the next pay raise might be at stake here.
An interesting article in "Psychology Today" confirms the "social nature" of laughter. It is seldom that we laugh when we're alone. Laughter always seems to be a signal we send to others. And often we laugh at things that aren't really funny, i.e.some tired old remarks like "Where have you been?", or "Boy, you don't seem to get older!". Yawn.
But we digress. Let's go back to that type of laughter that's spontaneous, uncontrollable, gut-busting, breath-taking, tear-jerking, rip-roaring, and - contagious.

The (in)famous clip with English subtitles! It has already been posted but I think this is the longest version so far. It's from a Belgian Comedy show called "In de Gloria", so the whole thing is staged. It's a 'mockumentary' about a fictious TV show host who got fired because of his inappropriate laughing at his guests, a woman who got paralyzed because of a surgeon accidently cutting her spine, and a man who had a tonsillitis and got a bad treatment which resulted in a damage of his vocal cords. He didn't get castrated or "lost his balls" like some people claim. Anyways, the funniest thing I have seen in a while!
