About Laura Childs

Could I be the Laura Childs you knew in school? At the restaurant we worked at in our 20s? Or the writer you'd always hoped I'd grow up to be?

You'll have to read on about Laura Childs to find out...

I'd never thought my name was common until I was living in the Beaches district of Toronto and met a woman of the same name just a few blocks away! Thankfully she married and changed her name. No more confusing telephone calls.

Later I moved to a small Ontario tourist town (pop 2,500) and wouldn't you know it? A Laura, who wasn't a Childs to begin with, married into the name! She gets my parcels in the mail. I get her phone calls asking me to work shifts at the retirement home!

Probably the worst of all name mixups however is the online confusion. I'm a writer and so is Laura Childs of the Tea Shop Mysteries and Scrapbook Crime series. Her name never was Laura Childs to begin with - she's actually Gerry Schmidt. (sigh) And while that Laura Childs writes fiction, I write online business strategy, website creation and promotion, and about all my favorite hobbies (which don't include crimes or mystery novels!)

So Squidoo, I matched you with Laura Childs. I rather like it here.

I'll try to get it all in on this space. My sites, interests, friends, favorites, hobbies, passions...

Who Gets Mixed Up About Laura Childs?

People from all over the world phone, email me and send me letters in the mail about a wide variety of topics they've researched online. Perhaps once I get this Laura Childs space together I can save them the long distance calls and postage! Of course I seldom mind a nice chat or card in the mail from pleasant folks. I've also set up, but it is sadly neglected, a website over at Laura Childs

However, you're here now, so why not use the guestbook (below), and say hello. Ask me any question. Tell me how we know each other. Share what we have in common....

Or for that matter, which Laura Childs you want to know more about!

And, while you're here, I'd love it if you took a moment and rated this page (the five stars above). Be honest, it will help me stay on track...

Plus, feel free to check out my links to gain deeper insight into the men, women and websites that have shaped my online life over the last 10 years.

I'll likely be out with the horses, in the gardens, cheering my daughter and her friends on at basketball, or at the other side of the keyboard and I'll be glad to know you stopped in.

I mentioned her above - she's really Gerry Schmidt but goes by the name of Laura Childs for all her book series.

Thought I'd include a few of them here for you, they're actually quite good (if you read that stuff!)

Laura Childs' Books on Amazon

I just wrote a published book!

For the last 14 years I have worked online while living down this back road in rural Ontario. I haven't just been creating websites, but also writing ebooks which consistently sell well from the various sites I run and own.

However, the news for 2009 is that I've just put the back cover on my first published (in-print) book which is available for pre-order on Amazon, but which won't hit the shelves in the book stores until Spring 2010. You can see the cover design and pre-order if you like, below.

The Joy of Keeping Farm Animals: The Ultimate Guide to Raising Your Own Food

After nearly 15 years of raising our own food on just as many acres and writing about my experiences online at www.GoodByeCityLife.com a New York publisher (Skyhorse) invited me to write a book about raising your own food.

Although the offer came at a difficult time in my life (just months after a house fire took everything we knew and held dear) I accepted and now we are mere weeks away from seeing this book shipping from Amazon as well as in local bookstores.

I wrote it for you, and you, and you. To make your life easier (once you made the decision to grow your own food) and your food healthier (just take a few minutes and read what the commercial growers are doing to the food you buy).

Over the next few months I'll be setting up a support website - a forum of sorts - where you can chat online with others who raise their own food - and love it!
