Laurel Crown Awards at Soul Food
The story goes that Apollo had fallen passionately in love with Daphne, the mountain nymph, a priestess of Mother Earth, the daughter of the river Peneius in Thessaly. He pursued her all over the countryside but just as he was about to overtake her Daphne cried out to Mother Earth who, in the nick of time spirited her away to Crete, where she became known as Pasiphae. Mother Earth left a laurel-tree in her place, and from its leaves Apollo made a wreath to console himself. It is this wreath that is placed on the heads of the victorious.
Winners of the great Panhellenic Games received only garlands - wild olive leaves at the Olympics, pine needles at the Ishmian Games at Corinth, laurel at the Pythian Games at Delphi.
The Soul Food Cafe proudly presents Laurel Crown awards to community members who came and have given their hearts to Soul Food and all that it represents. Training for the Pythian Games, like other events, was relentless work. These people have given thousands of hours of voluntary work to the site and deserve a special place of honor at the round table in Soul Food's Omphalos.

Meet Anita Marie Moscoso
Anita Marie Moscoso is a true votary of Soul Food and she has turned writing, on a daily basis, into a life style. Her blogs are constantly updated and at Christmas she produced a story a day at Riversleigh.Cold Storage is Anita Marie's Soul Food Workbook, the place which she calls her own little cyber morgue. The only thing is, Cold Storage is very much alive, as indeed, are all the dead that A.M.M. so capably breathes life into.
It is hard to know just what use people do make of the creative stimuli at Soul Food but there is no doubt that Anita Marie has taken the prompts offered and given them a very special take. She always manages to surprise webmaster, Heather Blakey, who regularly asks if she 'is trying to frighten' the residents. However, the residents just keep asking for more so there is no saving them. They all conspire and Mrs Parson's House was a much visited property over Halloween.
Work of Anita Marie Moscoso
Soul Food Writer

- Cold Storage
- My family comes from The Cold and The Quiet and The Dark I am from a regrettable garden that is in the center of a green field where grey stones and granite leave it's mark above forever.
My family's tree is leafless and bent and it casts shadows across tables where no one feasts and everyone weeps.
I am from long dark halls and dream filled nights and my family name is short and bitter.
We are whispered about, and sung about and prayed against and for and sometimes we are invited in and sometimes shunned.
Even though we are many we are always alone.

Meet Monika Roleff
aka Imogen Crest, Lemurian Hermit
In a profile for Soul Food Monika Roleff says: "A self-confessed workaholic at times, I have been writing for thirteen years in the world of novels, hopefully now on the verge of publication. Fascinated with turn of the 19th century thought and life, this is the period in which I write. The scene is always set somewhere in Victoria, Australia, the home state I know best and was born in, and many hours have been spent collating photo files, pictures, books, biographies, journals of country research trips, and having many a fascinating conversation. All of this creates a picture of the times, which have their origins firmly entrenched in history. I believe that everything is related and is birthed from the time that precedes it. Myth, psychology, personal dilemmas, and social mores and superstitions all feature in my work. I love colour, rich history and great stories, hence my liking for 18th and 19th century authors, the favourites have to be E.M. Forster and Jane Austen for people portraits. George Eliot and those like her, our local Miles Franklin and Henry Handel Richardson all feature in my rich tapestry of thought." The Work of Monika Roleff
Roleff now has a significant body of work at Soul Food and is a tireless ambassador for the site and the philosophy behind Soul Food.

Meet Lori Gloyd
When asked to write a profile Lori Gloyd said "I have always been involved in some sort of creative activity starting with the 64-color crayon set as a child, later on poetry, story and essay writing, and now digital montage work and photography.A while back, I stumbled across the Soul Food Café while trolling the internet for writing prompts and found a virtual reality that fostered and nurtured my creative spirit. I have written and made more art in the short time I've been at the Soul Food Cafe than I have in the years prior to finding joining it.
If I were to sum up my creative self, I would say that I am a historian by education, an observer of the natural realm by inclination, and a voyager through the world of spirit by compulsion. Whether I write, take photographs, or do digital manipulations and collage work, these themes--history, nature, spirit-- are infused and explored in each of my creative pieces. I strive to transform reality through my words and images-such as transforming the photograph of an ordinary ocean sunset into the new reality of a mandala as shown above."
In the few years that Lori has been at Soul Food she has made a major contribution to the site and is a true votary of making writing and art a daily practice.
