Why I carry a bottle lavender oil everywhere I go

I carry a bottle of lavender oil with me whereever I go. Not because I'm crazy about the scent. I know some people love it but I'm not one of them. It is more because that tiny bottle of oil is like an extremely compact first aid kit. Here's how you can use lavender oil for first aid, health and relaxation.

Lavender for bumps, cuts and minor wounds.

Accidents do happen. This is where that bottle of lavender oil comes in handy

Lavender essential oil is one of the two oils that can be used neat. All other essential oils must be diluted before use. The other oil that can be used neat for first aid is tea tree oil.

Treating bruises and bumps with lavender oil

Say your kid bumps his head. Put a few drops of lavender oil in the palm of your hand and use that to rub the pain away. Works for bumps and if massaged on right after the accident, it can minimize the bruise that would otherwise form.

Treating minor cuts and wounds with lavender oil

Drip the pure lavender essential oil directly into the cut to disinfect it. Lavender has pain killing and antiseptic properties that is excellent for first aid. It also heals wounds quickly. I've done this for myself many times and the wounds healed without any marks.

Alternatively, you could dilute lavender oil in some pure water and use that to wash your wound, or soak a clean cloth in water that contains lavender oil and use it as a compress.

Lavender for stress

Too stressed to sleep? Got a headache? Whip out that bottle of lavender oil

Workers on lavender farms would put a spring of lavender on their heads, under their heads to stave off headaches. If you've got a headache, try massaging a drop of lavender oil on your temples.

If you're stressed out, burn some lavender candles for a more relaxing atmosphere. Or better still, take a bath. Add a few drops of lavender oil to the bath water before you soak in it. Use lavender soap when you bathe to further enhance the relaxing effects of lavender.

Insomnia? Put a drop or two of lavender oil on the pillow to help you relax.

Tired after a hard day's work? Soak your feet in a basin of warm water that has a few drops of lavender oil added to it.

Or really pamper yourself with bath and body products that contain lavender.

Lavender For Eczema

Lavender essential oil brings relief to eczema suffers

No, lavender does not cure eczema but it can bring some measure of relief from the itchy rashes and painful wounds you get from scratching vigorously in your sleep.

My husband has eczema and he scratches like crazy. Doctors typically prescribe steroid cream for eczema but long term use does has side effects, like the thinning of the skin, which means, skin breaks more easily with scratching, more wounds, more infections and basically, more problems.

Lavender essential oil, on the other hand, relieves the pain and itch and over time, help thickens the skin. We use lavender essential oil, undiluted, all over itchy skin, so our room is full of empty 5ml bottles lying around everywhere. I'm considering buying lavender essential oil in bulk because of this.
