Lawn Care

Lawns, everyone has them, but not everyone knows how to care for them properly. Typically, you can drive down any given street and tell who has a gardener and who does it themselves simply by looking at the quality of their lawn.

Lawn care does not have to be difficult, and with a little information and work, you too can have a well manicured lawn that looks great and stays healthy all year round! We are going to look at some lawn care advice to help you keep your lawn lush and green, good luck!

Lawn Care

Lawn care is an important topic to many people. If you like the idea of having a beautiful lawn but find yourself struggling to maintain it, it should be helpful to know some basic but important lawn care tips.

To start off with, it is important to be sure that your lawn is being watered appropriately. This is a simple lawn care tip but it is one that many people have no clue about. When watering your lawn, you need to ensure that your lawn gets enough water, but not too much. If you soak your lawn, the roots may get too much water, which will damage your lawn. Generally, your lawn should get about one inch of water each week. Consider using a rain gauge durning the wet months so you will know whether your lawn needs additional water. Also, make sure that you pay attention to when you water your lawn. The best time to water is early in the morning.

Another important lawn care tip involves making sure that your lawn has the right nutrients needed to thrive and stay lush. Even grass needs nutrients like water and fertilizer. There are many lawn care fertilizers available at your local home improvement store. They are generally catagorized by season, and by selecting the proper season and following the directions, you should be able to provide your lawn the proper nutrients. You also need to make sure that these nutrients can get to the roots of the lawn.

An important lawn care need that many people don't consider is lawn aeration. If your soil is heavily compacted, for example those with clay type soil, then the lawn may not be able to receive any nutrients. Aeration can help to correct this problem. Most lawns should be aerated at least once per year. Some lawns may need to be aerated more often.

If you want your lawn to look lush and beautiful, then it is also important that you mow the grass properly. If you do not have the time to mow your lawn frequently then you might consider hiring a gardener, as this is very important to maintaining a healthy lawn.

A general rule of thumb is to never cut more than a third of your lawn height at any given mowing. If you cut too much off, it will harm the lawn. By mowing frequently, you can stay within this guideline. You also do not want to cut your lawn too short. Different types of grasses should be cut to different heights. For example, tall fescue should be cut to a height of 2 to 3 inches, while common bermuda grass should be cut to 1 to 1 1/2 inches.

By properly watering your lawn, aerating it, fertilizing and mowing it properly, you should end up with a beautiful and enjoyable grass area. If this just seems like too much work for you, another option is to look into artificial lawn. It will look great year round regardless of how much you water it!
