Welcome To Lawrenceburg TN!
Lawrenceburg, TN is about a two hour drive south southwest of Nashville, TN, "Music City".
History records we're the former home of Davy Crockett and that's a picture of his statue you can find on the official website of the city of Lawrenceburg.
Yes, we're the home town of former Presidential Candidate - Fred Thompson.
Lawrence County, TN of which Lawrenceburg is the county seat is being promoted as an ideal retirement community by the State of Tennessee's Retire Tennessee program. It's another hour and a half northwest of Huntsville, AL though Nashville has a much stronger influence over this part of Tennessee. (Huntsville is much more important to you if you're living east of here in towns like Fayetteville, TN. Then Huntsville becomes your "hub".)
Lawrenceburg TN isn't quite a bedroom community for Nashville, but it's fairly common for folks just north of here in the village of Ethridge (our Amish Country) and on the Lawrence County Line in Summertown to commute to Brentwood and Cool Springs (south of Nashville on I-65). Some commute to factories in Smyrna (southeast of Nashville on I-24). This lens on Lawrenceburg will talk about some of the community economics of the area.I work and pray for - among other things - for Lawrenceburg to transition from our factory based economy of the last generation to an economy more connected to the world at large so our people can make a way for themselves. Also, as broadband connectivity increases across our county, I believe this would be a fine place for teleworkers to live. and reap the benefits of smaller town life with the pay package and benefits of a larger city job. One of the distinctive features about Lawrence County (not the city) is the Amish community north of us in Ethridge, TN. Each Amish community is slightly different - ours tend to wear a form of blue denim I'd never seen before in the Lancaster, PA Amish settlement. Still this is a good introduction and will, indirectly, help you learn more about Lawrenceburg, TN and Lawrence County, TN

Life In Lawrenceburg October 2008
10/13/2008 "Breaking News"... Lawrence County TN just got approved to be part of the Appalachian Regional Commission. Does that mean we're hillbilly's now? There's not a mountain in sight... but somehow we're "Appalachia" now! Should we laugh or cry?OK, so what's new here? Well, it's not Lawrenceburg exactly, but the next town down, Loretto and a town in Northern Alabama called St. Florian are observing Octoberfest! These communities are both of German descent and now is the time of year you can see German flags and such to celebrate the season. Just south of Loretto is Miss Annie's Beer Garden. It's a historic restaurant that recently reopened after a four year closure while the State of Tennessee was widening the highway.
First Presbyterian Preschool is off to another strong year!

Life in Lawrenceburg TN Update August 2008
Our church is getting ready for a conference called "Renewal From The Roots". It's a countywide even regional outreach to help any and all local churches that might want to participate. We're doing lots of grassroots, guerilla marketing type things to get the word out and get traffic to the website. We have to keep hitting it! If you're in the area, check out the site and we hope to see you there.
What's New In Lawrenceburg, Tn July 2008
Ok, so what's new here in Lawrenceburg?First of all, I am most thankful that I now have high speed internet service at home! I was confined to Dial Up. But thanks to Kevin Wright's service, I now have wireless high speed internet here outside the city limits. Thanks Kevin! (If you're moving to Lawrenceburg, contact me through this form and I'll get you in touch with Kevin!)
Let's see - Big City Deli, a great sandwich shop, has moved to the town Square. It's got more room than ever before and business seems to be moving. Stop in for a great sandwich. This move happened a few months back, but I only now decided how to update this page so... you're hearing about it now!
The Town Square is really booming. Some real estate developers are doing a good job. Plans are to bring in an Italian restaurant. But they've remodeled a building on the Square as a meeting center. They call it Providence Hall. Too new even for a Google listing! But it promises good things for the downtown.
The best news is that a new firm is moving to town - Precision Laser. This is a link to their Canadian facility. They're bringing one in to Lawrenceburg. They hope to be in production in September 2008 and ultimately employ 150 people in a precision manufacturing operation. I've uploaded an image from their site about some of the excellent products they create.
While we were gone out of town a week our All New Square Foot Gardening
Also, got some information that Charter (our local cable provider here in town) has some awesome deals on Cable, Phone and Internet.
What's New In Lawrenceburg TN May 2008
This month lots of people are visiting Amish country for the produce. Tomatoes are starting to ripen and so are the Black Raspberries (pictured). We bought 2 quarts - one to eat fresh on the way home and another for a Black Raspberry Cobbler Monday night! It makes me want to grow some of my own.Speaking of growing our own, we've got a All New Square Foot Gardening
Best Things In Lawrenceburg TN
- Best Church - First Presbyterian Church (It's my church so my bias overrides any other factors...ok?)
- Best Wi Fi Hot Spot - Dairy Queen on Highway 43 Lawrenceburg. Newly remodeled, smoke free, good food or frozen deserts, generally quiet.
- Best Produce - I'll vote for Amish Country in Ethridge over the farmer's market because I like to drive around Amish Country. (You didn't think these suggestions would be rigidly scientific did you?)
- Best Onion Rings - Kuntry Kitchen on Highway 43. These babies are "home made" fresh when you order them.
- Best Bookstore - The Christian Book Store on the Public Square downtown. This one wins by default because I'm not aware of any other bookstores in town. If you're looking for pulp fiction though, you'll have to go to Wal-Mart.
- Best Mexican Restaurant - Fiesta Mexicana on Hwy 43. Stop by and say "Ola" to Jesus.
- Best Salad Bar - Brass Lantern on Pulaski Highway (Hwy 64). It's the only one I can think of right off the top of my head, but it's a really good one.
- Best Breakfast - Taste of the Town on Hwy 64 is where I stop if I want an omelet. If I'm looking for a fast and quick biscuit, then I'm driving through Hardee's on Hwy 43.
- Best Country Store - actually that goes to Yoder's Homestead Market on Hwy 20 between Summertown, TN and Hohenwald, TN.
- Best Health Food Store - Nature's Nuggets on W. Gaines St (Hwy 64). They also own Westside Gym though I can't say I've ever pressed iron there. Lots of people like it though. Great people to do business with!
- Best Deli Style Sandwich - Big City Deli on the Square. Excellent sandwiches, salads, wraps, and soups. Tastes absolutely "Big City" for a little town. As good as anything you'll find anywhere in my opinion!
- Best High Speed Internet - since it's the ONLY high speed internet where I live, it has to be Kevin Wright's wireless internet service!
- Best Video Store - I use Blockbuster mainly, but lots of my friends LOVE Netflix!!! (Yes, we get MAIL here in Lawrenceburg. Once or twice a month at least!

I enjoyed this great introduction to Lawrenceburg! I graduated from LCHS in the 1990s. My parents currently reside in the area (mom works at the Christian Book Store), and I recently returned from a visit. I'm now a newlywed college professor currently residing in Texas. This makes me miss "home!"
