Lawyers as Depicted in the Media -- Order in the Court?

For some reason, lawyers have always been made the central characters (or side characters) in many, many books and movies. I remember watching "To Kill a Mockingbird" long ago--when I was a kid and our TV was black & white. I also remember many years of enjoying watching Perry Mason and then Matlock.
So later, movies like "The Firm", and "Pelican Brief", and "The Witness" were inspiring to watch. And "Legally Blonde" and "My Cousin Vinnie" were enjoyable forays into the humorous side of the legal endeavors.
I've sometimes read the books before watching the movies--and sometimes I've seen the movie before reading the book. Either way, it's good!

Lawyers are handy to have... and I'm not kidding!
But all kidding aside, lawyers are handy to have around. You'd be surprised how many activities you engage in that might have legal impact on you or someone else--and that it would be good to have legal counsel (aka "advice") on what to do in these situations to keep you from getting into even more trouble.
Hey, many of the so-called "lawmakers" in our government--in congress, our senate, our house of representatives, our states and provinces, and so on (and if you live in other countries, perhaps we're talking about your prefecture or your house of lords or your parliament) ... make up our laws. And unfortunately, sometimes the laws they cook up are so obtuse and obfuscatory (confusing and full of hidden meanings) that you need a "Boston Lawyer" to figure out what the heck the law means and how it affects you. Also, unfortunately, most of us don't realize that we've stepped in a pile of mess until after we've done so, this is also when lawyers are handy to get you out of the mess. (Of course, it would make sense to have the wise advice of a knowledgable counsel (also called a "barrister" or "advocate" in other countries and languages) to keep you from getting into the mess in the first place.)

I always enjoyed watching every episode of Matlock -- images of a gentleman, country lawyer who could not only be on good terms with his rural fellow townspeople, but who could also do well in the big city courtrooms. Matlock is a likeable lawyer! Entertaining and exciting episodes are here for your enjoyment.
