If you have a delay of several hours, why not play a round of golf at the 15-hole executive Westchester Golf Course. It's about a mile away from the airport and is open till 10pm daily. Another nearby course is the nine-hole Manhattan Beach Marriott Golf Course - and you can walk onto the course from your hotel room if you happen to be staying there.

What's the point of a layover in California if you can't catch some rays? You've got plenty of choice a short cab ride away from the airport. Of course, you might already have checked in your beach wear, but don't let that stop you from taking the two mile trip to Dockweiler State Beach. The Petersen Museum is only nine miles from LAX, so you'll have plenty of time to make your flight. The California Science Center is another great attraction with free admission and an IMAX theater.

A great attraction for TV addicts is CBS Television City, which is about 10 miles from LAX. This is the home of many CBS programs, and you might be able to score free tickets to see your favorite shows filmed. The catch? You'll need to book in advance, so this one would probably only work if there's a cancellation.
