5 Things To Do If Your Flight Is Delayed At LAX

Ranked #29,103 in Travel & Places, #664,366 overall

Introduction

Delayed at LAX? Here are some things to do within easy reach of the airport.

Whatever your departure airport, flight delays and cancellations have sadly become a normal part of travel. It's true that they are annoying, but delays could also be an opportunity to see more of a place you haven't visited properly. Let's take Los Angeles International Airport, for example. There's plenty to do within 10 miles of LAX so as long as you haven't cleared security, there's nothing to stop you from exploring once you've checked your bags. Here are some quick excursions to consider.

1. Play Golf

If you have a delay of several hours, why not play a round of golf at the 15-hole executive Westchester Golf Course. It's about a mile away from the airport and is open till 10pm daily. Another nearby course is the nine-hole Manhattan Beach Marriott Golf Course - and you can walk onto the course from your hotel room if you happen to be staying there.

2. Get Some Sun

What's the point of a layover in California if you can't catch some rays? You've got plenty of choice a short cab ride away from the airport. Of course, you might already have checked in your beach wear, but don't let that stop you from taking the two mile trip to Dockweiler State Beach. It's so peaceful that you wouldn't even know it's so close to the airport and the four mile beach stretches from El Segundo to Playa del Rey. Another option, just a little bit further and even quieter, is Porto State Beach.

3. People (and Nature) Watch

Further afield, Palisades Park  is an ideal spot to watch the world go by while you relax. Nature lovers will also enjoy the Exposition Park Rose Garden.

4. Explore Science and Technology

If your tastes run more to the man-made than the natural then explore the history of cars at the Petersen Automotive Museum which has special exhibitions of hot rods, classic cars and more all year round. The Petersen Museum is only nine miles from LAX, so you'll have plenty of time to make your flight. The California Science Center is another great attraction with free admission and an IMAX theater.

5. Watch Live TV

A great attraction for TV addicts is CBS Television City, which is about 10 miles from LAX. This is the home of many CBS programs, and you might be able to score free tickets to see your favorite shows filmed. The catch? You'll need to book in advance, so this one would probably only work if there's a cancellation.

Conclusion

Visit these attractions instead of moping at the airport and you'll be in a great mood when you finally catch your flight from LAX.
