Helpful ideas to maintaining a healthy body weight

Do you juggle work, family and life? No time left to spend two hours a day at the gym?  There are many little things you can do that will help you to stay or become thin.  I want to share a bunch of them with you.

Switch up your diet. 

Your body needs a jolt out of the ordinary.

Most of us eat about the same thing everyday. A balance meal, of equal portions of carbs and protein. What our bodies are used to might actually be the worst thing of all! Many famous diets are based on the fact that your body will work extra hard when it needs to adapt. Make your body adapt to a new diet!

Rotate your focus each day. One day focus on carbs... yes.. eat carbs! Eat a minimal amount of protein that day. The next day, focus on protein.. eat no carbs. You can eat as many veggies as you want.. but watch out for fruit. Also be careful of your beverages.. drink tons of water, and no sugary pop or coffee. Try this for a week, and you will see results!

Clench... and release 

Stuck at your desk? You can sneak in a little bit of exercise

I do little bits of exercise... sitting at my desk and lying in bed! My problem areas are my abs and my buns. These are easy to work. All you have to do is clench and hold for five seconds. Do ten reps or so. This will not only give you some much needed exercise, but it will relax your muscles.

I do this in bed to help my back. Strong abs give you fewer back problems. Relaxed buns and abs feel good to your back. So these little movements can really pay off.

Make your TV your EXERCISE MOTIVATOR!!! 

No better way to sneak in some physical activity

Watch tv while sitting on an exercise ball! Use advertisements as mandatory rep counters... Do your exercises to the beat of music videos. Anything to distract you from the fact that exercise is lame! Do it while entertaining your mind!

I like to position myself like I am going to do a situp, with my knees facing the tv. Now in order to see you have to pull yourself up with your abs. Flex and hold. Do this at a great moment in your favorite show... you won't give up!

Ditch your car 

Leave your car at home sometimes

Living in the suburbs can leave you driving all the time. Sometimes we forget that you can still walk to the store to get milk! Walk everywhere you can.

Running for the bus is really good for you! Try to incorporate any physical activity into your commute everyday. It's like frequent flyer miles... they add up really quickly.

Learn about the sports you love 

Getting away from the gym is good

Have you ever noticed that some people never work out, but are toned up and looking great? The trick is to love the sport you use to get exercise.

Are you into team sports? Joining a soccer league, getting a tennis partner, playing baseball, basketball and hockey are ideal ways to stay fit.

I hate team sports. I suck at them, and so I feel dumb. If you are like me, focus on the endurance sports like skiing, hiking, kayaking, rollerblading, walking, biking and running. These are engaging yet fun, so your exercise time isn't torture.

Altering your calorie intake 

When you don't want to diet, make small changes

Unrealistic diets can make you depressed and harm your health. Who wants to give up everything tasty? Who has time for large meals cooked from scratch? Here are some ideas for changes in your diet that are easy. They will add up to long term positive change, instead of binge dieting. Try one or two a day, don't overdo it at the beginning. If you feel deprived you won't stick to the changes.
  • drink flavored water instead of cola
  • use skim milk in your coffee or tea
  • stock up on healthier snacks -pinpoint your cravings
  • buy sorbet instead of ice cream
  • take the time to make your lunch
  • make exciting salads- with cheeses or nuts
  • buy really good salad dressings
  • avoid things really white
  • embrace things really green
  • if eating out, try to resist adding bacon and cheese
  • drink tea! it will help in digestion
  • ban french fries, pizza, hamburgers and french fries.. it's not that bad!
