Guide #1: How to transport a large LCD TV and get safe delivery
More and more people have taken the plunge and bought themselves a new plasma or LCD TV, which can only mean more people will eventually be moving them. Using this guide you will be able to transport your TV and get safe delivery service without any problems.
Unlike their older counterparts, plasma and LCD TV's are more fragile due to their thinner physique and larger screens. As a result they can be prone to cracking if not handled with care. It's advised to hire a professional delivery service company to do this job for you. However, if doing it by yourself, it is advisable to have a friend at hand to help with the lifting as larger models can get quite heavy and unstable when moved. Before beginning preparation it is essential to check that both your chosen transportation and destination have enough space for your TV.
Preparation
Preparation and protection is key when transporting your plasma or LCD TV. Before you begin packing your plasma/LCD TV it is essential to remove all wires that may be attached. Then proceed by carefully removing the TV from its stand or wall mount.
Whilst it is best to transport your TV by using its original packaging, it is still possible to have it safely moved without it. If you don't have bubble wrap at hand, a couple of thick blankets will do the job just as well. Place your TV with the screen facing the ceiling on blankets laid out on the floor and wrap it carefully but firmly around the plasma or LCD TV. Secure the blankets around the TV using heavy duty tape to stop the TV from slipping out.
Alternatively, you can use foam sheets instead of blankets with a piece of cardboard placed on the screen to minimise any potential impact that may occur during transit. Remember, you want the end result to resemble the original packaging as close as possible.
To take extra steps, use a specialty box company to provide large or custom-sized boxes, styrofoam inserts and other protective material for your TV.
Transport
Congratulations! Your TV is now ready to be moved. When carrying your TV make sure it is handled and stored in its upright position to avoid putting any unnecessary pressure on the screen. Equally, remember to lift from the TV base to reduce any additional stress on the screen. Have a friend at the ready to help move your TV, avoiding any walls or corners that may damage the TV.
When booking a delivery service, you should try and gauge whether or not the man and van driver will be working alone or be accompanied by a drivers mate. If they do work alone, it is often expected that you, the customer can assist at pickup and drop-off locations (especially if the goods are particularly large and/or heavy).
Finally, enquire what your TV will be transported with - you do not want your plasma or LCD crammed between heavy goods for example.
On arrival, unpack the TV as carefully as you packed it and plug in to a socket to test if it is in good working condition.
