I love your Lenses, this one has so much truly great information and photos (as do all of your Lenses). Thanks for enlightening me; I never knew China had any Giant Buddhas, I thought they were ant-religious. Interesting.

I knew about China's large turtles, but missed the Buddha, which is incredible. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! When you seen the size of the people next to this huge statue you can see just how big he is. Brilliant lens, really enjoyed reading all about it!

I absolutely enjoyed and love this lens. Now I will have to take a trip to see the Leshan giant Buddha when I make it to China. Sprinkling a bucket of Ange Dust your way. Great job.

A wonderful lens that's far more than just Buddhist travel interest. I've lensrolled it to my Buddhist: 5 Precepts lens.

This is amazing! What a wonderfully beautiful and informative lens you've built. In his batchelor days my husband travelled a lot and one of the subjects he returns to again and again is his experiences with statues and stories of Buddah. I'll pass this lens link to him.
Thank you for visiting my lens recipe-overhaul.

Thank you, Grace. I have very fond memories of this trip to Leshan. I queued for over 90 minutes to see this rock carving... it was well worth the wait!

Thanks, Rinchen Chodron, I feel honoured this lens has been accepted into your wonderful group. It was very hot when I visited the Grand Buddha. Summer in Sichuan is very oppressive. Waiting in a queue for over an hour was not very pleasant, either! It was well worth the trouble, however. The breathtaking size and craftsmanship of the Buddha made it worthwhile.

Fascinating! I had never known about this (probably because it is in China) - welcome to the Dharma group.

Thanks Sumit. I think the ones in Afghanistan were larger, but now this one is the biggest, by attrition :-(
  • roysumit Jul 5, 2009 @ 12:25 pm | delete
I didn't knew it. I thought the Bamian Buddha in Afganisthan, destroyed by the Talibans, was the largest. And I felt sorry for it. Now I know, there are still some famous Buddha statues, well preserved and beyond their reach. Great lens and thanks for sharing. Five stars.

This is a really nice lens, some friend of mine went to China last year and took photos there. It's very impressive. I am still amazed at how people could create works like this over 1,000 years ago. 5***** and it's always nice to see great lenses like this.
