The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) final rule regarding standards for the identification of dangerous levels of lead took effect March 6, 2001. The standards identify when lead-based paint, lead-contaminated dust, and lead-contaminated soil are hazards.

Lead
Lead is a commonly used metal in industry and manufacturing due to its low cost and ease of use. This extremely maleable metal lends itself to many common manufacturing tasks. Unfortunately lead is also extremely dangerous and a result lead is considered to be a designated substance in Ontario. Lead in the body is dangerous because it interferes with normal body functions.
