Leaf Decor - Decorate Your Home with Leaves

Bring Nature Inside with Leaf Decor

Reproduce the feel of an autumn landscape and fall foliage by using leaves in your home decorating projects. Explore great leaf wall art, leaf shaped plates, and leaf place mats.

There are so many different shapes, colors and textures of leaves. They can be used during the fall as decorations or accents, but don't feel limited to one season. I use leaf artwork all around my home and love leaf imagery.

The photo of the leaf on the left is made from tree branches. This would be super easy to replicate and you can use found branches and hot glue or wire to hold the branches together. Think about your favorite leaf shapes and form the shape and veins using tree branches.

Flowers, plants, trees - they all have leaves.

Autumn Leaves in Your Home Decor

Ways to use leaves you collect during the fall

leaf artworkYou can retain the beautiful reds, golds and browns of the autumn season in your home all year round. Collect leaves during the fall and use dried autumn leaves as a unique decorative resource for your home decor. You can press freshly collected leaves flat with an iron and dip them in wax to preserve their unique color patterns.

Decorative leaves can be used as fillers in flower arrangements, to make wreaths, placed in photo shadow boxes on the wall as artwork, or used as filler for a bowl or table scape centerpieces. I created this simple leaf shadow box with an old frame and leaves I collected from obliging maple leaves during a walk in the fall.

Martha Stewart Living Crafts

The Best of Leaf Ideas

martha stewart wreathsI love this wreath book! I love hanging wreaths on my door, but it can get expensive to buy different wreaths for every season. I was just at a local craft fair and many of the wreaths were selling for between $40-$80 and up! This book has several wreaths projects made using natural leaves that you can find in nature and make with little to no money.

Inside you will find a West Virginia rhododendron cross wreath. Roses made out of magnolia leaves. Leafy garland, a laurel wreath made out of 320 laurel leaves of uniform size on a straw wreath base. There are gold painted holly leaves.

The front cover features a huge autumn leaf wreath made from various hues of maple leaves. You can make a wreath out of almost any tip of leaves. Simply, take a wire leaf form and secure leaves with floral tape if they are light weight or floral wire if you need more support.

There are so many stunning leaf wreaths you will want to create them all!

Leaf Shaped Plates & Dinnerware

Add leaves to your dinner table.

leaf shaped plateI use a leaf accent plate in the bathroom to hold my toothpaste tube. When I'm shopping and see leaf shaped items, I have a hard time not picking them up. You can use leaf plates as candle plates or as decorative holders for potpourri.

Tons of leaf patterned dinnerware exists. There is an inexpensive Corel set I can think of. You can find a leaf plate during the fall at a variety of home decorating stores, I think I picked mine up at Wal-mart.

Leaf artwork

Paintings, Photos, Prints, Metal Art

leaf artworkYou can find a variety of leaf artwork out there. The set of three modern prints in the photo to the right are on canvas fabric and I purchased those inexpensively at Target. You can purchase individual metal leaves that you can place randomly on your walls in whatever patter you like. May photographers shoot leaves, especially close up macro shots. Leaves closeup have lots of interesting details. The lines and shape of the veins produce natural textures and it is fun to study them up close.

Many forms of artwork exists to hang on the wall, canvas leaf prints, leaf photograph prints, leaf paintings - the options are limitless. Naturayarte is an amazing blog with leaf cut artwork. Shapes, patters and scenes are hand cut directly into real leaves, the detail level that the artist is able to achieve is extraordinary in the artworks.

You can use leaves in one room or all over the house. I have leaf artwork interspersed through out the house, but I really love leaf shapes and colors so they are a main source of decorating inspiration. They are modern and graphic, but still look natural and classic because it is a natural plant shape.

Change up the look of your furniture by adding throw pillows. You can add pops of color to your room this way, or dress up an old chair or couch and make it look entirely different. You can also use throw pillows on your bed instead of buying the decorative pillows that go with your bedding so everything isn't quite so matchy-matchy.

I pick big fresh tropical leaves from my garden and put them in vases - phildendrons, crotons, pride of india etc. I do like your leaf bowls and leaf cushions and could extend to leaf fan blades. Blessings.

My favorite leaf item is a set of plates I have with fern leaves at the edge. Leaves under food are so pretty. Especially a big piece of white cheese...

When you press the leaves and let them dry, I touch them up with a little bit of paint, put them on a felt background and frame them
