League of Legends: Rune Pages Guide For Champions
Runes allow you to customise the champions you play to suit your play style. These runes mostly affect your early game and can be defensive, offensive or utility based. This could be maximising your mana regeneration so you can use your abilities more or focusing on a defensive setup for a weak laning champion.
Runes are something that all summoners should use, but deciding on which runes to run on each champion can be daunting for newer players. This guide aims to provide some guidelines for rune choices for various champions.
Don't forget that this guide only offers guidelines of the best standard rune pages. The suggested rune pages may not work for your play style or your champion (some champions require specialised rune pages to perform at their best). All the rune pages contain Tier 3 runes.

AP Champion
Rune Page Suggestions Below
Rune Book 3 - AP Champion
Standard Caster Setup
This AP rune page is your bread and butter caster setup. It gives you abit of everything that you need (penetration, mana regeneration, cooldown reduction and starting health) and is a solid choice for any AP based champion. Cooldown reduction per level is used because they are cheaper than flat cooldown reduction.
Stats:
-8.5 Magic Penetration (Marks)
-11 Mana Regeneration @ 18 (Seals)
-8.1% Cooldown Reduction @ 18 (Glyphs)
-78 Health (Quints)
Cost:
15,375 Influence Points (IP)

-Any Ability Power (AP) Champion that uses mana.
Rune Book 4 - AP Champion
A More Offensive Choice
This rune page is a more offensive based setup for a caster, maximising your Ability Power. It works best on AP champions that have strong Ability Power ratios and have a strong early-mid game phase. I only recommend using this rune page if you intend to play aggressively and make use of the bonus Ability Power.
Stats:
-8.5 Magic Penetration (Marks)
-11 Mana Regeneration @ 18 (Seals)
-28 Ability Power @ 18 (Glyphs)
-15 Ability Power (Quintessences)
Cost:
12,300 Influence Points (IP)
Pros:
-Strong early-mid game damage
-Allows you to snowball quickly against unaware opponents.
Cons:
-Does not work well on low AP-scaling champions
Works Best On:
-Strong early-mid game Ability Power (AP) champions.
-Ability Power (AP) champions with good AP scaling on their abilities.
Other AP Champion Rune Options
- Spellvamp Quints: You can add these to provide some extra lane sustain and works particularly well on AP champions already focused on this (such as Vladimir).
- Armor Seals: These are a good replacement for mana regeneration on any non-mana Ability Power champion such as Vladimir, Katarina or Kennen.
A Blank Rune Page
Tank Champion
Rune Page Suggestion Below
Rune Book 5 - Tank
Standard Tank Rune Page
This rune page is your standard tank setup, focusing on overall durability. Magic Penetration is taken as tanks all have some damage output and it is generally magic based. You can mix and match certain aspects of this rune page to suit your playstyle or tank champion and these will be outlined below.
Stats:
-8.5 Magic Penetration (Marks)
-14 Armor (Seals)
-24 Magic Resistance @ Level 18 (Glyphs)
-78 Health (Quints)
Cost:
13,530 Influence Points (IP)
Pros:
-Strong survivability with both armor and magic resistance.
-Contains runes that are usable in many other rune pages (saves alot of IP)
Cons:
-Lacks mana regeneration.
-May not be perfect for all tank champions.
Works Best On:
-Most tanks
-Tanks not heavily reliant on mana and mana regeneration.
Other Tank Champion Rune Options
- Movement Quints: These are a great addition for tanks that rely on positioning to be effective.
- Increased % Health Seals & Quints: Are a strong option if your tank build contains many Health items (you want around 3.5-4k health for these to be effective).
- Mana Regeneration Seals: If you are constantly out of mana you may need some mana regeneration in your rune page.
Unlocking Rune Page Slots
Support Champion
Rune Page Suggestion Below
Rune Book 6 - Support
Standard Support Champion Setup
This rune page is a good standard support rune page and is the exact same as the standard caster rune page, this is great if you have limited rune pages and is especially great at saving your Influence Points (IP). There are several other support champion options for rune pages which will be shown below aswell.
Stats:
-8.5 Magic Penetration (Marks)
-11 Mana Regeneration @ 18 (Seals)
-8.1% Cooldown Reduction @ 18 (Glyphs)
-78 Health (Quints)
Cost:
15,375 Influence Points (IP)
Pros:
-Works on any Support champion & doubles as an AP caster rune page (good for limited rune pages)
-Provides all important stats for support champions
Cons:
-May not suit all support champion needs or your playstyle
Works Best On:
-Most support champions.
Other Support Champion Rune Options
- Armor Marks: If you are playing a support with limited damage output consider taking Armor Marks to reduce incoming physical damage.

- Gold Gain Seals & Quints: Increases the amount of gold you gain overtime, helping you get your items easily.
The Rune Combiner
Jungle Champion
Rune Page Suggestions Below
Rune Book 7 - Jungler
Standard AD Jungle
This rune page is a great standard jungler rune page (and also doubles as an AD champion rune page, great if you have limited rune pages). It offers alot of survivability with armor (a must for jungling anyway), some magic resistance and some solid starting health. This will not be 100% optimal for all junglers. For perfect champion based jungle rune pages see Stonewall008's YouTube Channel.
Stats:
-15 Armor Penetration (Marks)
-13 Armor (Seals)
-24 Magic Resistance @ Level 18 (Glyphs)
-78 Health (Quints)
Cost:
Influence Points (IP)
Pros:
-Works on any AD jungler
-Doubles as a standard AD champion page to save on rune pages.
Cons:
-Lacks attack speed (boosts jungle speed)
-Isn't optimal for every jungler.
Works Best On:
-Attack Damage Junglers
Other Jungle Champion Rune Options
As mentioned previously I highly recommend checking out Stonewall008's YouTube Channel to find the perfect jungle rune page for your champion, this page is intended as a basic guide to runes and not a jungle rune guide, there are too many variations to cover on this page.
- Attack Speed Marks/Quints: Some junglers benefit heavily from added attack speed as it increases their jungle clear times and survivability.
- Attack Damage Marks/Quints: Some junglers have abilities that scale very well with attack damage (AD), as such they benefit highly from this stat.

- The idea of this page is to provide rune pages that will work well on all champions in LoL (saving you IP and also very important if you only have 2 or 3 rune pages). The actual guide pages assume that the champion is your 'main' and that you want a specific rune page for them, hope that clears it up.

- You want to look at Rune Book 2. This gives you tankiness and armor penetration. You can change the quintessences to something more defensive like health or movement speed though.

- Great guide, is there a rune page used by the best players for AP, Jungler and Support?
Also I think I want to build all the pages you have here but lets say I jungle with Rammus, do I use the Jungler runes or the Tank runes?
I'm not interested in building hybrid because then it can only be used for Rammus who is the only one I can think of who is jungler and tank, I just want to generalize.

- It's hard to say that the best players use a single rune page. At the top levels they will have several rune pages for an AP for example and use a different page depending on their opponent and of course their own playstyle. The ones available on this page are definitely what the standard is (and the most IP efficient). As for Jungle I recommend checking out stonewall008s youtube channel he provides the best rune pages for junglers.
With your Rammus question, you could create a perfect jungle rammus rune page (see stonewall008s youtube) or you could simply use your tank rune page. The difference in jungle speed would maybe be 10seconds slower, if that. This is where it is up to you, if you play Rammus alot sure build the perfect rune page, but if you don't have the runes or the rune pages running tank will be perfectly fine, it won't mean you can't jungle, it will just be slightly slower, but not enough where you would even notice.

- Hey, love your guide, best one I've seen so far and so I am going to follow it.
Only thing that bothers me is that with the recent rune nerfs in the Hecarim patch, what should rune pages look like now?
