My Personal Take On the Leapfrog Leappad Tablet
The main reason I bought a Leapfrog Leappad Tablet is because I find my child learns much easier from technological gadgets than I can ever teach him (so I'm a bad teacher/parent, sue me!).. Whenever I get into "teacher" mode, he starts to play around and makes-up answers. So I've given up and delegated the job to computers.
So when I heard about the Leapfrog Leappad tablet, I got interested and bought it when it was released.
Now before I continue any further, do know that my child hasn't seen this tablet yet. It's going to be a Christmas gift! That's right I'm waiting 3 months before I give it to him.
But I've had a little play with it and this is my initial thought about the Leapfrog Leappad Explorer.
First thought -- Kids these days are so lucky. I only had Speak n Spell when I was growing up!
As an educational tool, this is rockin' -- like many other computer-based programs, I have to say..
I just know that my child will be spending so much time on this thing I'll end-up limiting his use. I haven't bought the additional apps, but the ones that come with it would suffice initially -- although this is something you need to think about if you have a more advanced, more techie kid.
It also looks very durable -- which is a always a plus when you've got a 4-year old.
Ok now, should you buy it?
At $100, it's not the cheapest of purchases.. But let's put it this way --- a child's digital camera costs about $39, a video camera's about $42, some other educational toys are about $60. Since all these three are in the Leappad Leapfrog Explorer, this tablet comes out as much cheaper than all those three combined (if you plan to buy these three in the next couple of years that is).
I also think it's also a good educational tool that he can take with him everywhere he goes. And definitely a good thing to carry along while traveling ( this will come in very handy during those very long transatlantic flights!!!!!!).
I know it's nowhere as good as an Ipad, but for a kid, it might as well be.
