LeapFrog Leapster Explorer Game: A Grandparent's Review

Leapster LeapFrog Explorer Toddler Handheld Game - My grandson loves it!

My grandson is almost 4 and loves to watch the older kids play hand held video games so I thought it would be fun to buy him one geared towards his age group. I bought the LeapFrog Leapster Explorer and read that it was just introduced during the summer of 2010 so I assumed it probably had all the latest and greatest technology. When I gave it to him he immediately began playing the Mr. Pencil Saves Doodleburg game and seemed to understand it pretty well. It kept him busy for a good long time drawing lines and shapes, making letters and art.

Later that day when I finally got him to give it up for a little while I played with it too. Wow was I in for a surprise! The new Leapster Explorer does so much more than I could have ever imagined and it really is made for learning, not just playing toddler video games. It has educational games, videos, and he can download apps to it with even more games and some e-books (when he gets a little more experienced). It has a big touch screen that is brightly colored and a tough plastic shell that seems pretty impervious to damage from dropping.

The Leapster Explorer also gives parents the ability to monitor and track their child's learning online at the Leapfrog Learning Path, and they can receive emails to find out about accomplishments and find out areas where their child needs help.

Lots Of All New Games Made Exclusively For The Leapster Explorer

Leapster Explorer Has Lots Of Educational Game Cartridges

More Great Leapster Explorer Games Will Be Ready For Christmas

LeapFrog Leapster Explorer Learning Game: Dora the ExplorerThe Leapster Explorer game system costs $70 and came with some app games, The Mr. Pencil Saves Doodleburg and Jewel Train. The Leaplet App download cards are $7.99 for a pack of two and we also have Harmonies, a game that allows my toddler to play around with songs and music. As I've been looking through the details and other reviews of the game cartridges I realize they are very age appropriate and specific in what they teach. For example counting skills are the focus of Disney Fairies and The Penguins of Madagascar, reading is encouraged with Woody and Buzz in Toy Story 3, and speaking skills are honed with the Wolverine and X-Men games. There are also games about animals, geography, and music.

The Leapster Explorer games are reasonably priced in my opinion. The price of the original gaming system is $70 and the individual game cartridges range is from about $20 - $25 each. For the amount of playing and learning time my grandson will get that's a bargain. Right now we have the Penguins of Madagascar game and he loves it. So do I. There are lots of cartridge games available and more being released before Christmas. I'm planning to add a few to my grandson's gift list this year. I doubt he will get bored or tired of this for a very long time. It seems like the playing/learning opportunities are endless and it grows with him right up to about age 9.

Online Connectivity Extends the Fun and Learning-for Kids and Parents

LeapFrog Leapster Explorer Learning Game System

Quotes from the Leapster Website - "The Leapster Explorer Learning Experience delivers more than 40 different learning and play experiences by year-end, offers an unprecedented combination of handheld and online play for four- to nine-year-old kids. Featuring a hi-res, finger-touch screen, Leapster Explorer supports downloadable LeapletTM Learning Apps, like e-Books and videos, and a click-in camera accessory, for high-tech, kid-tough learning and play. And Leapster Explorer players can access even more learning fun online in LeapWorld, for a total mobile learning experience that offers kids new discoveries every time they play.

Kids can extend the fun by connecting Leapster Explorer to LeapWorld, LeapFrog's online learning playground, a "walled garden" accessible only via the LeapFrog® Connect Application. For example children can convert their Leapster Explorer gameplay accomplishments into LeapWorld tokens, using them to create a character, build a home, and customize both. Kids can also take their personal pet with them into LeapWorld, purchase virtual treats and shampoo, then bring their pet back to Leapster Explorer for on-the-go play. By allowing players to move back and forth from the handheld to an online world, Leapster Explorer gives kids an endless combination of learning experiences, in the ways they like to play."

The LeapFrog Leapster Explorer handheld device will motivate any child to learn.

This looks like fun. We have got some of the Leap Frog videos for our son and they're really good educational products.
