WHAT'S THE BUZZ??

LeapFrog Leapster2 Learning System Parent Review:

August 22, 2008

Without a doubt, the Leapster2 is a nice, stylish game system that is
age-appropriate for young children. It is easy to handle and, for the most part,
easy to use. The games available include many popular titles (Cars,
Backyardigans, Disney Princesses, Dora, Thomas, etc.).

Leapster 2 is a good new edition. One can download additional free games from
the Internet for it for example (a couple of games are now finally available for
download, so the initial deployment issue has been resolved). You need to buy an SD card for this to work. Even though the manufacturer recommends 256 MB SD card or less, we bought one with 1 GB and it works well (256 MB cards are harder to get nowadays).

We like that the built-in games stay available in Leapster 2, even when a game
cartridge is inserted (an improvement over the original Leapster). The design of
the hardware is sleeker looking, as well.

Overall, a very good product, and one of our son's favorite toys by far (he
plays it daily in the car, and during wait-times, such as when waiting for the
food to arrive at a restaurant). Our son is 2 years and 8 months by the way, and
he had the original Leapster since he was 2 years old. He is a smart boy, but I
assume not a genius, so the manufacturer's minimum recommended age is quite a bit off.

LeapFrog Has Hit Gold With Leapster2

LeapFrog Leapster2 Learning Game System is the only preschool learning game system that offers personalized insights into what your child is learning.

It's interesting to go back and look at how the LeapFrog Leapster2 Learning Game System came to be. It originated as the Classic which was essentially a Gameboy for the toddler set. It was built for rough and tumble treatment, had an up-down-right-left jog switch, a touch screen with a stylus, and game cartridges whose names featured popular childhood characters. There was a healthy dose of education with the entertainment, and the level of game play advanced as the child got older, thus keeping the child engaged and challenged. Parents were thrilled.

About a year later, the Leapster Classic was replaced by the Leapster L-Max with an A/V output jack, allowing the game to be played on the television.

And the current sensation, LeapFrog Leapster2 Learning Game System, followed quickly on its heels. It has a slightly smaller screen and a USB port instead of the A/V output jack which opens up a whole slew of possibilities.

Parents can connect their child's Leapster2 to a Mac or a PC. A new online creativity studio also lets him upload art that he's created, embellish it or change it completely, and publish it to share. Additional games from LeapFrog can be downloaded onto the Leapster2 with the aid of an SD Card slot that is fitted into the game (the SD card does need to be purchased separately.) And with the new USB connection, parents can also see their child's progress in recent games, get detailed updates on the skills he is exploring, and share in his accomplishments.

The LeapFrog Leapster2 Learning Game System handheld offers a robust learning experience through built-in tutorials and learning levels that adapt automatically to your child's pace. Its touch screen and stylus help develop motor skills used in writing, while its compact design makes it easy for kids to play on the go. It's also compatible with all 30+ Leapster learning games, so kids can practice a wide variety of skills for school as they play and learn with their favorite characters.

In essence, with the right software, the LeapFrog Leapster2 Learning Game System could give an early Palm PDA a run for its money. LeapFrog has hit the jackpot once again in its perfect blend of technology, creative learning, and FUN!
