Some packages include games, puzzles, and mock conversations, while others are more traditionally academic and focus on vocabulary and pronunciation. Many packages also offer mp3 audio files you can play on your ipod or in your car to help you practice while away from your computer.

Will you be able to learn French fast, or will it take a long time? It depends on how much you study, and how lofty your goals. If you want to be mistaken for a native, you'll need to either spend years in regular practice, probably from an early age, or else be one of those lucky people who picks up languages naturally and easily. However, if your goal is to be able to understand and be understood on your next trip to France or Quebec, a few months of concentrated effort should do the trick.
