Ranked #1,245 in Games, #39,177 overall

what is UDK

Will be updating this in next few days to make it better

Hi my name is Jodus and I'm a game designer. I'm learning and working in the UDK to make game levels, terrain, 3D levels and worlds, and right now I'm working on a third person shooter game with RPG features. You can also make your own characters for your game by modeling them in 3Ds Max 2011 and transporting them over to UDK to play. UDK is Unreal Engine 3 a complete professional development framework kit. All the tools you need to create great games, advanced visualizations and detailed 3D simulations on the PC and iOS it's for anyone and everyone that want to learn how to level design and make games. There were many great games make with Unreal Engine 3 like Mass Effect 2 and Gears of War games. The picture to the left is one of the levels that was made with the UDK. You get started and get the latest version here at http://www.udk.com/download also you can go here http://www.udk.com/showcase to see some games made by different groups working with UDk.

UDK features

I been working in UDK and I really like all the things you can do to make your own game or just mess around in it just to see what you can do it. Even if don't know much its really easy to learn to do things but it will get more complicated when you start building your game. UDK features like

Complete Editing Environment: Unreal Engine 3 offers a fully integrated editing environment through the renowned Unreal Editor

Artificial Intelligence: Give AI-controlled characters increased spatial awareness of the world around them and enable them to make smarter movements with UDK's gameplay framework and artificial intelligence system.

Powerful Scripting: UnrealScript is a simple, high-level programming language that gives complete scripting control. Scripts can be connected via Unreal Kismet, an intuitive visual editor that requires no programming knowledge. UnrealScript lets you build prototypes and add new gameplay elements quickly and easily.

Just a lot more features just to UDK to help you out.

UDK Tutorial

Steps needed to start your own game making in UDK is learning UDK, Unreal script, if you have 3ds Max 2011 or earlier or any other like Maya, Blender is free. With the 3d modeling programs you can import objects, material, buildings, and your own character to UDK to help with game design. I will be posting tutorial in the future on different things I'm doing in 3ds Max 2011 and UDK to the game that I have in development. Also there is scaleform gfx integrated in the UDK that you can make a 3D hub, game menu like one game is dead space 2. All the pictures you see is all made with the UDK.

How to build a simple terrain in UDK

Download the June beta of the UDK and install it after done installing load up the UDK. After you load UDK you be welcome by the welcome to UDK screen so close it by hitting the x and close the content browser by hitting the x too. Now go to File-new and choose a map template will pop-up and click on blank map and you should get a blue grid map with a box that is just red lines. Now go up and click on Tools-New Terrain then the New Terrain Wizard will pop-up where is says Patches put 52 for x and y under Patches click next the finish. It will take a few seconds to load up the terrain then the terrain should pop-up. Hold the right click button down on the mouse and then you can now look around a certain direction and the middle mouse button you can move forward and backwards and with the arrows keys you can move forward, backwards, and side to side. To help those who don't know how look and move around. Once the newly layer of terrain shows up you will see it 4 squares 2 blue and 2 grey so move up above the terrain where you can see the whole terrain layer then right-click on mouse go to add dominant light actor above the terrain. After adding the light actor right-click on mouse again the click play here and now you be able to move around the terrain layer

Here is some YouTube videos that will help out when learning the udk and trying to make your own game.
