Learn To Play Electric Guitar With 3 Easy Steps

Let's face it, really learning guitar can seem like a daunting task. There are so many different things to learn and practice. The intent of this article is to highlight the three most important factors needed too successfully learn how to play electric guitar.

1. Know Your Instrument

If you want to learn how to play electric guitar you should know your instrument

To begin when learning to play your electric guitar, you must first familiarize your self with the instrument.

The guitar is constructed with a head, neck and body. The body maximizes the sound, the neck has frets to adjusts the pitch and the head holds the stings tight and alters the tune.

Get a diagram of the guitar at your local music store or online that has the names of each note on the guitar. Memorize the notes on the guitar.

Spend 10 minutes every day just saying the notes as you play them.

2. Ear Training

Ear training is a MUST to learn how to play electric guitar

What you need to do next on learn how to play electric guitar is to develop your ear. Music students should know how important ear training is for their development. It doesn't make sense for someone to learn how to read music or play a musical instrument, and not be able to imitate sounds with the voice or the instrument.

Many musicians are shocked when they realize they literally have no pitch recognition -- even though they listen to musical tones constantly.

Yet with just a few ear-opening instructions, we bet YOU will begin to recognize tones and chords -- ALL BY EAR -- regardless of your current ability level.

You should put aside 10 minutes a day for ear training.

3. Develop Your Muscle Memory

Exercise your muscle, now your learn how to play electric guitar

Lastly, you can play exercises that develop your muscle. Practicing guitar exercises is like eating healthy! Just listen to Blink 182's 'What's My Age Again', Jimmy Eat World's 'The Middle', and Led Zeppelin's 'Heartbreaker' and you'll get the picture. Speed isn't everything.

Accuracy and consistency are BIG! When you practice a difficult piece of music, do you repeat the whole thing again and again, stumbling the whole way through, until the music eventually surfaces from under the mess of wrong notes, halting rhythm, and curses? Do you now why? That is because your muscle has a memory.

Muscle memory is very important for those who aspire to be great lead guitar players. Playing simple chromatic exercises can help improve your muscle memory.

Once again You should put aside 10 minutes a day practising your muscle.

In just 30 minutes a day you can quickly and easily develop the skills that will help you excel as a player. These are just a few pointers that help a person learn how to play the electric guitar but there are plenty of sites on the Internet that can provide further information, tips and techniques.

They teach by "lesson set" instead of just flopping out a ton of small video clips.

They start with the very basics like tuning your guitar, finger placement, and basic chords, and move on to finger-picking, palm muting, hammer ons, pull offs, and many more advanced topics as you progress through the lessons.

We found this surprisingly good for the overall experience, because you can follow through these lesson sets just how you would with a normal guitar teacher. Biggest thing is, it's cheap as well because they get so many members.

I am amazed at how much I have learned

D. Wallace (10/24/2007)

I've been a member for three days now and I am amazed at how much I have learned from Steve's Bluegrass lessons. And I haven't even completed all of the lessons yet! Your site is much better than the new fall TV season.

I am looking forward to starting on Phase I lesson one to unlearn and relearn and put some new life into my guitar playing. Thanks for a great site.

I am having fun and enjoying the process.

Diane (10/17/2007)

I have had no technical difficulties whatsoever, (I'm using an imac 20" g5, and comcast broadband) and I am working my way through Steve's beginners lessons. Steve is excellent, and the video quality is very good. It will take me some time to get everything out of the video lessons, but I am having fun and enjoying the process.

Your service is first rate!

Darwin D. (10/04/2007)

Your service is first rate! I started at the very beginning as I am waiting for my new Martin D28 to arrive on the 6 th of Oct. ( this weekend) My son is delivering it from Tommy Lee Music in Vancouver. I can hardly wait to see it. So I am without a guitar for a few more days as I gave my last guitar to one of my grandaughters as she is taking music right now. Anyway I would recommend your service to anyone as it is excellent! Yours truly, Darwin D.

It's truly one of the best investments I have ever experienced

It's truly one of the best investments I have ever experienced. Now because of JamPlay.com my guitar skills are improving significantly! Thank you!!!

..I find myself having a hard time going to bed at night, and can't wait to get to the next lesson..

Rich Conley (8/04/2007)

I just wanted to say thanks for the great guitar lessons! You've really filled in a lot of "gaps" in my theory, and made it extremely easy to learn. No joke, I find myself having a hard time going to bed at night, and can't wait to get up to view the next lesson...

I've been playing for 20 plus years, and most of what I've learned has been through studying books on my own. It's great to be able to watch you do it and explain everything so it's easy to get. Like I said, you've helped fill in a lot of holes in my playing. I may have known what to do before, but now I'm starting to really understand why I'm doing it!

I am one of 3 worship leaders at our church, which has about 800 to 1000 members, so I get people asking me for guitar lessons all the time. The problem is I don't have the time to help them. I like jamplay so much I'm sending everyone to you guys with the confidence that they will definitely benefit from it!
