How To Play Soccer

Soccer is a great game to play, but many people are unsure how to play soccer, especially confidently. In the article below, How To Play Soccer is explained in great detail.

How To Play Soccer

Learn How To Play Soccer Well

You cannot expect for soccer skills to come easily to you. Even if you have talent, much practice will be required to get you to the top.

To be a good soccer player requires a lot of practice and determination, and the basic skills must be mastered. These basic skills range from throwing in a ball to dribbling and kicking. You can learn how to play soccer well easily, but the skills will not come to you overnight. A good level of fitness is required to become advanced at soccer, so start running!

Dribbling
The most important aspect of soccer, along with impeccable communication, is dribbling the ball. Dribbling a soccer ball is extremely overlooked and underrated. It gives a player the confidence to run with the ball and keep control which is extremely important. Dribbling can be practised and improved by heading over to a local park and jogging with the ball, touching it with your feet with every step you take. Another basic but good way to improve dribbling skills is to weave in and out of cones (or objects) with control.

Throw-ins
Throw-ins must be learnt by a person if they wish not to concede fouls and give away free throws. The ball must be grasped with two hands when throwing it and it must be released when it is behind the top of your head. Your feet must be on the ground when you let go of the ball at the sideline. Foul throws are a result of not obey these throw-in rules and the throw-in will be reversed to the other team.

Heading The Ball
At first heading the soccer ball seems daunting and painful. However, if you header the ball correctly, it is relatively pain free. To header the ball correctly, you must make contact with the soccer ball using the top of the front of your head. The force you hit it with depends on where you want the ball to travel. If there is a contest for a header, do not pull shirts or push. A foul against you will occur and a free kick will be awarded to the opposite team.

Keeping Possession
Keeping possession is a very important part of playing soccer for a team if they wish to be strong competitors. You should always take the first touch to gain control of the ball if it comes to you. Than, when you have control, play it off to the feet of teammates. This is where you need to have mastered basic kicking. Taking a big swing before controlling the ball is a bad idea. Chances are you will miss it. To control the ball, use any part of your body except your hands and aim to have the ball just just in front of your kicking foot.

Kicking The Soccer Ball
Kicking is what many people enjoy about soccer, and so they should. However, many people struggle to achieve the kick they want to do. Different techniques must be used for different types of kicks. For the ball to travel in the air, you must lean back when making contact with it. Contact must be made at the bottom of the ball with the side of your toe area and you must follow through. Kicks in the air are good for free kicks and corner kicks. To get the effect of curving the ball you must run in on an angle to the ball and hit it on an angle, following through. Once again you must lean back and make contact with the soccer ball on the under side. To pass accurately you must kick the ball with the inside of your foot at your target, making contact with the ball about half way up, not under it.

Stretch well before and after playing soccer due to the frequency of muscle pulls in soccer.
