Learn and Master Guitar Review

If you enjoy spending $2,000/year (or more!) on private guitar lessons, then "Learn and Master Guitar" is NOT for you. However, if you would prefer to save that money by avoiding traditional lessons, this will be worth a few minutes of your time for sure...

Update: After reviewing all the most popular guitar courses online, Learn and Master Guitar came in at #2. Check out my full guitar lessons reviews site to see why.

Intro: Review & Tips to Save Money!

If you've heard of "Learn and Master Guitar", you're probably wondering if it's worth the cash. Well, some folks in my guitar web class asked me to do a review of it (and I never turn down an opportunity to learn from a new perspective), so I decided to try it out and review it for the World to see. Hope you like it!

By the time you're done reading this Learn and Master Guitar review, you'll have a better understanding of what the package could do for you whether or not it's worth the money, and if not: what online guitar course would be best for your needs.

Getting Physical...

Ok: the major difference between most online guitar course products and "Learn and Master Guitar" is the simple fact that it is a physical product that's shipped to your house in the form of a book, CD's and DVD's. (The other courses are downloadable videos, ebooks, etc.)

So, I think it's best to think about which you would rather use for your lessons: physical stuff you can take with you, feel with your own hands, write on, etc. or instantly downloadable files you can never lose, take up no space and cost less?

Learn and Master Guitar: The nitty gritty

I'll just tell you right off the bat: "Learn and Master Guitar" costs $199. I know, that's a lot of money, but check out what you get:
  1. 10 jam-packed DVD's: These core video lessons are what makes the course for me. Steve shows you step-by-step how to improve specific skills, then does a "workshop" session at the end of the section to let you try an exercise on what you watched him do.

  2. 5 audio CD's (about 100 tracks): It's definitely a plus to be able to jam with Steve's band to work on your skills.

  3. Guitar lesson book: This book is massive because it contains all of the info from all the DVD's! It's well-written, easy to read and very informative. It's nice to be able to watch DVD's and all, but sometimes I just want to read from a book, ya know?

  4. Unlimited access to Steve Krenz's "student support site": It's always nice to be a part of a community, and learning guitar online is no different. Being a part of this active forum allows you to talk to other people learning guitar about your goals, your progress, or whatever! (Plus, you get to drill Steve himself, and he'll answer personally as quickly as he can.)

How Learn and Master Guitar Can Save You $2,288/Year on Guitar Lessons...

While Learn & Master Guitar does require an investment of $199, it's actually easy to save $2,288/year compared to private guitar lessons...and here's the crazy part: it can actually help you to learn guitar much faster, because you can work at your own pace and watch the videos anytime you feel like it!

Wondering what I'm talking about? Let me explain: I've been playing guitar for a long time, and I've personally reviewed dozens of different online courses designed to help people learn to play guitar.

If there's one thing I've learned after all of it, it's simply that being able to look something up in a book, run through exercises, scales & songs, and watch demonstration or play-along videos REPEATEDLY is far superior to trying to cram everything in to a 30-minute session with a private guitar instructor.

Here's where this really starts to matter: the average price for a single 1/2 hour guitar lesson is about $22. I've seen lessons given for $12/session, but for a good teacher with experience, $15-$30/lesson is reasonable. Most beginner guitarists take 2 30-minute lessons per week, meaning they spend $44 x 52 weeks/year = $2,288/year on guitar lessons!

While it is quite nice to have someone to ask questions (and many of the online guitar courses do not offer this kind of 1-on-1 support), Learn and Master Guitar has a community forum to talk with other guitarists and you can ask Steve Krenz, the creator, questions at any time!

The best part to me though, is the fact that I can watch the DVD's, play through the exercises, and reference the book whenever I need to at home, all without having to lug my gear around town to make it to lessons.

So, in the end, if you're serious about learning to play guitar (and you wouldn't mind saving $2,288/year on lessons), I highly recommend Learn & Master Guitar!

P.S. - Insider's tip to save money: they have sales all the time to save $30-$100, so bookmark their site and check back later if it's more than $149. If not, take advantage of the discount!

Review Summary

Ok. So I really like "Learn and Master Guitar" overall, but I want you to know a couple things before you make any decisions:

1) I have been playing guitar for quite a few years now, and while it does include beginner lessons, it seems to be geared a bit more toward the intermediate player.

2) Because you get a physical book, DVD's and CD's, you have to wait a while for it to be shipped to your house, which is not the case for the other online courses I've tried out.

3) This is the most expensive course I've ever gotten, but it's still only the price of at least 4 or 5 half-hour private lessons, and you can watch the DVD's anytime you want, in your own house, until you learn everything you want to learn!

4) If you get it, I highly recommend you go for the gold and get the $199 upgrade. In order to do a fair review, I got the upgrade, and for an extra $50 you basically get an extra 10 DVD's! There are tons of really helpful video lessons on those 10 DVD's, and since it's only an extra $5 per DVD, I think it's worth it...

Now: If "Learn and Master Guitar" is out of your price range, then I seriously encourage you to get Jamorama. While it's not as high-quality as Learn and Master Guitar, it's great for its price.

In the end though, it's tough to beat Learn & Master Guitar. Oh yeah, and here's a little tip to save some cash: they run sales all the time to get the original edition for anywhere from $30-$100 off, so bookmark their site and come back if it's more than $149. If not, you caught it at a good time, so take advantage of it!

I hope that review helped you decide on your guitar lesson weapon of choice.

Have a great day, and have fun playing guitar!
Kyle
